Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose

Together with other CGIAR centers, IRRI implements the OneCGIAR Asian Mega Delta Initiative and Mekong Delta in Cambodia is one of the focus sites. This position will lead gender and social inclusion research in the initiative with a focus on understanding social and gender dimensions of climate risks, vulnerability and challenges to provide recommendations towards equitable and inclusive Mekong Delta development and planning. The initiative seeks highly motivated candidates who have strong background and experience in gender and social inclusion in international development. The incumbent will work with interdisciplinary team at IRRI and other CGIAR centers. 

This position will be based in Phnom Penh Cambodia and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Cambodia.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct a literature review on relevant topics and engage in the design of research approach and framework
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative data collection including data on gender and social exclusion in agri-production systems, contextual social, economic and environmental factors and challenges in different research locations
  • Consolidate and manage relevant policy data and undertake institutional analysis where relevant 
  • Network and engage with collaborating partners (national/international) and actively exchange conceptual ideas and plan outreach and impact
  • Support local coordination between members of the project team and national partners
  • Provide training and technical assistance to partners on Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) research tools, methods and approaches 
  • Collate and manage data sets and undertake drafting of reports; summarize, evaluate and analyze data
  • Assist in the identification of relevant local and national stakeholders
  • Assist in the development of annual reports and publications in refereed journals as well as blog posts, presentations and posters to be used in national and international conferences
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Sociology / Anthropology or Development Studies related fields; at least 6-7 years’ experience or
  • PhD with 1-2 years of experience in gender in agricultural or environmental research in Southeast Asia
Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Experience of gender and social inclusion related field-based research
  • Experience of adaptive/participatory research

Preferred

  • Knowledge of gender focused theoretical frameworks
  • Knowledge and experience in data management and analysis
  • Experience in promoting gender transformative development planning/ activities
  • Experience conducting training and managing events
  • Experience in working in international and interdisciplinary environment
  • Experience in gender and nutrition, agricultural technology adoption and/or climate change
