The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) seeks to recruit a qualified candidate to fill the position of Logistician responsible for ICRC supply chain and logistics activities.


This is a position directly based in one of our international offices in over 90 countries to help people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.
 

What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Main Responsibilities

 

The  role holder is the backbone of ICRC assistance activities in the field responsible for the following activities :

  • ICRC supply chain and logistics. 
  • Defining supply patterns in line with ICRC rules, demand and supply planning, procurement, inventory management, transportation and custom formalities, and ensures proper warehousing operations. 
  • Leading a team while  demonstrating strong management skills and can motivate, train and support his/her collaborators. 
  • Performance of his/her operations  within budget and to optimize the logistics set in the field. 
  • Ensuring compliance  of supply chain and logistics operations  with  international standards.
     

Desired profile and skills

  • Excellent command of English and French. 
  • Recognized qualification in Logistics (Supply Chain, Purchasing, import/export, transport, warehouse management, etc.). 
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in Logistics. Humanitarian field experience an asset. 
  • Fully conversant with IT tools. Strong background with ERP system.
  • Commitment to the ICRC’s humanitarian mandate. 
  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work. 
  • Capable of leading a multicultural team.
  • Responsible and well-organized. 
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment.
     

Our operational & field constraints

  • In line with the principle of neutrality, the ICRC does not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals.
  • Candidates must be in good health and will have to do a medical check-up prior to departure in the field. 
  • Candidates must possess a driving license (for manual transmission vehicles). 
  • Candidates must be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependents) for at least the first 24 months.
