UNDP Jordan Environment, Climate Change, and DRR pillar has been supporting the Government of Jordan to fulfill its commitments towards International Environmental Conventions including the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) and has launched several interventions in the Gulf of Aqaba to conserve Jordan`s unique biodiversity in landscapes and marine ecosystems. Support is primarily focused on enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of the newly established Aqaba Marine Reserve and addressing direct drivers to protect habitats and species. Among these initiatives, The Mediterranean Forum for Applied Ecosystem Based-Management (MED4EBM), Improving the management and operation system of the new Aqaba Marine Reserve, and Enhance the conservation of the Aqaba Marine Reserve by improving the capacity for effective management.

UNDP Jordan Country Office seeks to employ a full-time Project Officer to coordinate the projects` site-based activities under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and in collaboration with the local partners.

Duties and Responsibilities
Scope of Work

a)    Ensure smooth implementation of the projects` activities in accordance with the projects` documents and UNDP's procedures
b)    Be responsible for the coordination of the project activities with other involved governmental and non-governmental organizations under the supervision of the Projects Coordinator
c)    Development and implementation of the projects` annual work plans and support of the process of quarterly and annual planning of projects` activities.
d)    Coordinate, monitor, and closely follow up on activities of all consultants assigned by the projects to ensure timely provision of inputs and achievement of outputs and deliverables.
e)    Monitor the progress of the different projects` activities including the development of “in-house “databases that document all related information and provide concise progress reports on work accomplished, main difficulties encountered, Etc.
f)    Assist in maintaining a trusting relationship with all stakeholders including relevant ministries and local NGOs.
g)     Assist in preparing Terms of Reference for consultants and contractors.
h)    Provide technical input to project activities where appropriate.
i)    Submit reports of relevant projects` progress to UNDP CO. 
j)    Work as a liaison officer with the local communities’ institutions.
k)    Coordinate activities with project partners.
l)    Integrate the projects` annual work plans into partners` annual plans to ensure coherence.
m)    Support the Project’s visibility by assisting in the writing of press releases and speeches related to events organized by the project and ensures adequate media coverage for such events and any other strategic issues/activities linked to projects` implementation and assist in preparing communication/publicity materials e.g., posters, brochures, newsletters, Etc.
n)    Document and disseminate lessons learned and best practices derived from the projects` activities.
o)    Ensure total accuracy and the highest level of transparency in the management of the projects` financial resources in accordance with UNDP and national regulations and procedures.
p)    Support preparing the required financial reports to accompany the Project’s quarterly and annual work plans and reports. 
q)    Ensure consistency and integration among the various projects` elements and related activities provided or funded by various sources.
r)    Foster and establish links and synergy with other relevant programs within UNDP.
s)    Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor given the nature of the project that is part of the broader Coastal and Marine Management Program at UNDP Jordan.

Institutional Arrangement

The Project Officer will perform his/her tasks on a full-time daily basis for one year (with the possibility of extension) and will be based in Aqaba. The project officer will report to the project’s coordinator - Improving Management and Operation System of Aqaba Marine Reserve.

Required Skills and Experience

•  Advanced University degree (Master’s)  or  A first-level university degree in combination with 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree in Environmental management , marine science, engineering, coastal zone management, sustainability, natural sciences, or related fields 


•    Minimum 2 years experience in coastal management, maritime and/or marine job or relevant fields with a Bachelor’s degree
•    Knowledge of Result-based management and at least 2 years of experience in project management and implementation.
•    Proven experience working with relevant agencies in Jordan.
•    Proven ability in work plan preparation.
•    Proven ability in budget management.
•    Good working knowledge of and demonstrated ability in project management.
•    Strong analytical skills, and good interpersonal and team-building skills.
