Overview:

Learning Solutions is a team of learning specialists, trainers, instructional designers and innovators supporting the implementation of training and capacity-building projects of UNITAR's Division for Peace. The Learning Solutions team focuses on creating high-quality, needs-based, creative and innovative learning solutions for our beneficiaries, including military, police officers, justice sector professionals, young changemakers, humanitarian workers, senior-level peacebuilders and local community leaders.

The Learning Solutions team is seeking qualified learning specialists to design and develop eLearning courses.

Application to this vacancy will offer the opportunity for selected candidates to become part of the Division for Peace roster. Suitable candidates will be chosen based on their experience and expertise according to the demands of any future projects.

Competencies:

Technical Competencies: has an excellent understanding of how adults learn; has an excellent understanding on how to change behaviour / improve performance; is able to develop gender-sensitive and inclusive eLearning courses; is able to apply a thorough design methodology from needs assessments to evaluation; is able to design eLearning courses that are tailored to the learners’ needs; has proficiency in storyboarding and graphic design; has experience with authoring tools among which Articulate 360; has experience with Moodle or similar Learning Management Systems; is able to produce animated videos using software like Powtoon; is able to use video editing software; is able to design and develop microlearning courses.

Professionalism:  Timely and quality submission of deliverables; activities implemented with a high degree of effectiveness and efficiency; demonstrating a high degree of professionalism of the consultant and contributing to an increase in the professional image of the Institute; ability to follow up on project work plan; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; takes responsibility for incorporating gender and inclusivity perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Situational competencies: is able to quickly learn and apply the approach of the Division for Peace on training design; is able to produce culture-specific materials; demonstrates flexibility and adaptability; demonstrates creativity and orientation towards solutions. 

Interpersonal competencies: is able to communicate and interact effectively with all stakeholders; is able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Reflective competencies: has awareness of his/her strengths and weaknesses as an instructional designer and is accustomed to self-reflection on his/her practice; has a strong motivation to develop as a learning specialist who can apply the approach of the Division on training and capacity-building for current and future projects; values continuous learning and professional growth.

Experience

At least 3 years of experience in the field of eLearning instructional design, including one or several of the following areas:

  • Creation of courses with Articulate Rise and Storyline (or other similar authoring tools)
  • Creation of micro-learning courses with EdApp (or other similar authoring tools)
  • Creation and setup of courses in Moodle (or other similar learning management systems)

Experience with the UN or other international/donor agencies on thematic fields related to peacekeeping, peace-making or peacebuilding is an asset.

Education level

University Degree or equivalent experience in one of the following fields: adult learning, instructional design, learning management, educational technology, or any other relevant field.

Language skill

Proficiency in English is essential; Proficiency in French, Spanish or another official UN language will be considered an asset.
