Our Young Professionals Program (WBG YPP) is an exciting way to start a career with the World Bank Group. For close to 60 years, the program has recruited some of the brightest young minds to contribute to our top priorities, from poverty eradication, social development and climate change to the current response to the COVID-19 crisis.

We are looking for individuals who are younger than 32, who demonstrate a passion for international development/finance, a graduate degree (by September 2023), relevant professional experience and the potential to grow into leadership roles across the World Bank Group.

YPP Selection Criteria

·       Born on or after October 1, 1990

·       Relevant Master’s by September 2023 (including but not limited to a Master's of Business Administration or equivalent, Economics, Finance, International Relations, Science and  Engineering)

·       4+ years of relevant work experience

·       A commitment and passion for international development

·       Fluency in English

The following attributes are a plus:

 

·       Certifications such as the CFA

·       A commitment and passion for international development

·       Work experience in emerging markets and developing countries

·       Full proficiency in one of the following official WBG languages: Arabic,

Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish

 

Duties and Accountabilities

  Support business development teams to build a strong pipeline of potential investee companies and to initiate new investment opportunities.

  Conduct analysis on new business opportunities and liaise extensively with colleagues worldwide.

   Actively participate in the due diligence structuring, negotiating and execution of deals in a lead or supporting role;

   Analyze and appraise all aspects of new investment proposals (debt and or equity) including financial, operational, commercial, legal, corporate governance, and environmental and social sustainability elements; and prepare investment recommendations where appropriate;

   Prepare investment review materials and presentation to investment committee to obtain approval. Negotiate in coordination with internal and external legal advisors the legal agreements and documentations of the transaction;

   Participate in negotiations; use negotiation skills to overcome impasses and finalize negotiations in straightforward transactions;

   Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners to develop specific investment opportunities;

   Track compliance of portfolio companies with reporting requirements, including monitoring the flow of financial statements and other reports, monitor development results; aggregate and analyze portfolio information data; coordinate communications with the necessary departments; monitor client compliance with their legal agreement with IFC. Propose courses of action in the event of non-compliance;

   Identify and evaluate opportunities to increase the development impact of new or portfolio projects.

   Pro-actively participate to the development effective sharing and institutionalization of industry knowledge and lessons from experience with the rest of the team.
