Area Manager Eastern Ukraine*

in Poltava

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Poltava, Ukraine.

As Area Manager for Eastern Ukraine, you will be responsible for the successful management of expat and national staff implementing humanitarian and developmental programs, in compliance with Welthungerhilfe, Concern Worldwide, CESVI, and donor requirements. You will also line manage the Finance and Operations teams in the region and might directly manage a number of projects.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide direct oversight of all project managers, as well as direct management of at least one project such as one of those implemented by national partners
  • Manage the local team supporting the project, maintain high quality delivery standards and ensure professionalism and ethical conduct
  • Manage the specified project’s budget for Welthungerhilfe and local partners with their budget responsibilities and ensure spending oversight
  • Ensure full compliance with all project related activities, both the Organizational Capacity activities, and the direct implementation of project activities at community level
  • Produce well accurate and high-quality regular reports for internal and donor audiences
  • Ensure all heads of projects in Eastern Ukraine are delivering results and reaching targets in line with the quality standards of JERU and its partners, donors and the humanitarian clusters in Ukraine
  • Ensure day to day manage of heads of project, finance office, MEAL Officer, logistics officer and other senior staff in the area office
  • Ensure that all projects are implemented in line with the JERU mission strategy and new projects are based on the available strategy
  • Propose new proposals and intervention areas in line with the JERU mission strategy and participate in the development of these in coordination with the Head of Programmes
  • Ensure that monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning standards are well respected in the Area office
  • Participate in the Country Management Team in representation of the Eastern Ukraine Area Office
  • Manage the security officer based in the area office and ensure the overall security of the staff, stakeholders and programme participants
  • Capacity building for all staff in the base location

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in political sciences, public administration, conflict studies, humanitarian action or other related disciplines with specific experience in integrated project management
  • Experience in eastern Europe, especially knowledge of Ukraine context would be desired
  • Experience in humanitarian / IDP contexts is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of field office, area office management in humanitarian contexts
  • Proven experience working in partnership with civil society organizations and in stakeholder management
  • Ability to lead teams in a challenging and fragile security environment
  • Coordination and organisational skills - even under a high workload
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe's programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English; Ukrainian and Russian language skills are an advantage
