The United Information Centre as part of the Department of Global Communication (DGC) in the Strategic Communications Division (SCD) invites you to be part of an internship programme during 2022.
The internship position is located in the UN Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) in Brussels. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of and reports to the Head of the Nordic Desk at UNRIC. UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries.
The internship is for a period of three to six months with an opportunity for extension as a maximum 6 months depending on the needs of the Department and availability of the intern. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Department or office.
Under the guidance of the Director and the Information office of the Nordic Desk, the daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in writing and translating articles for the UNRIC web site.
Assist updating social media accounts to include drafting and editing content;
Assist the Desk Officer with media monitoring and liaising with Nordic media.
Assist in the daily liaison with civil society, academia, NGOs in the Nordic countries.
Participating in the organization of events.
Assisting in preparing the organization of events on the work of the UN in Nordic countries.
Performs other duties as assigned.

CLIENT ORIENTATION: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients " and seeks to see things from clients' point of view. Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect. Identities clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s leavel or equivalent).
Applicants must also:
-Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.Languages
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in one of the Nordic languages is required (Swedish or Norwegian or Icelandic or Finnish or Danish) and fluency in English. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.Assessment

- In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
