Description

You will report to the Partnership & Opportunity Satellites Programme Manager within the Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department.
You will be responsible for managing and implementing all the activities related to the Greek National Satellite Space Project for which ESA is providing technical support.

You will also be responsible for developing a long-term partnership with Industry and/or Operator Partners by fostering reliable technical collaboration and steering innovation developments and digitalisation procurement.

The project is part of the nation’s Recovery and Resilience Facility plans, which aim to enhance Greece’s capabilities in satellite technologies and applications, and to empower the country to exchange satellite data.

Duties

•    Successfully managing the Satellite(s) Partnership Project within its declared technical, programmatic, schedule and costs objectives;
•    Developing and validating innovative sub-systems/equipment up to satellite/product line on-ground qualification and validation in orbit;
•    Negotiating and subsequently managing the project contract including contract changes as required;
•    Monitoring product line competitiveness, if applicable;
•    Building and subsequently managing the ESA project team, including specialised engineering support from the ESA Technology, Engineering and Quality Directorate;
•    Maintaining an ESA-internal Project risk register and pro-actively managing all risks;
•    Organising all project related communication activities;
•    Ensuring risk and lessons learned best practices are applied;
•    Providing regular technical, programmatic and financial reporting to ESA management and the ESA Participating States;
•    Steering new satellite equipment and systems development and digitalisation procurement in conjunction with industry;
•    Promoting European space system technology development;
•    Attracting and developing a team of engineers to reinforce the critical competences needed to achieve digitalisation excellence at ESA.

Education

A Master's degree in relevant engineering or scientific discipline for this post is required.

People management experience is an asset, as is international experience, i.e. outside your home country, as well as experience in diverse functional areas relevant to ESA activities.

 

Experience in managing complex space programmes up to launch and in orbit testing is desirable, preferably in the telecommunications domain.


Direct experience of working with a commercial telecommunications industrial firm and operator will be a distinct advantage. Experience in Partnership Projects and/or the ability to enforce rigorous oversight of satellite procurements while maintaining an excellent relationship with manufacturers would be an asset.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
