Job Overview: The Caseworker, Welcome Center is responsible for providing case management inside the Sacramento Welcome Center, the only Welcome Center within California serving all immigrants regardless of status. It is a role requiring both expertise working with vulnerable populations and comfortability supporting the launch of new programming. Along with providing direct case management services, the caseworker links immigrants to resources in the community and acts as the primary point of coordination for referrals. The caseworker is expected to also stay connected with community partners and new resources for those in need of aid. This position will be 100% remote during COVID-19 restrictions and all case management will occur through the Center’s Resource Hotline. After the restrictions are lifted, the position will be based solely out the Welcome Center in South Sacramento. This position reports to the Welcome Center Coordinator

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, comprehensive case management services to asylum-seekers and undocumented migrants per year to ensure acute needs are met in a timely and culturally appropriate manner for each program participant.
  • Provide support for clients accessing public benefits, housing, mental health services and medical care.
  • Maintain the resource hotline and manage incoming calls.
  • Maintain case file documentation, including clear and concise case notes.
  • Maintain internal tracking systems and data collection.
  • Assist with reporting on program objectives and accomplishments.
  • Identify new resources and services in the community. Build partnerships with providers and work to connect clients to available resources.
  • Support the Welcome Center team in promoting the center within immigrant communities.
  • Communicate with Welcome Center team to connect clients to community events held at the Center or access to donations.

·       Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, trauma-informed care trainings, and fully engages as a member of the team.

·       Participate in Welcome Center partner meetings.

·       Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.

·       Stay up to date with all U.S. immigration policy changes and developments, as well as local issues relating to immigrants.

·       Other related duties as assigned.

Indirect Reporting: Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: The Caseworker will work as a member of the Welcome Center. This position will collaborate closely with other Welcome Center staff, volunteers, and interns to ensure comprehensive case management for all clients. This position will also develop working relationships with all the Sacramento programming staff to support achievement of program goals.

External: The Caseworker will develop working relationships with both governmental agencies and community service providers in order to promote client referrals and improve client access to developmentally-appropriate services. This includes, but is not limited to school providers, health providers, benefits access, housing services, legal services, mental health services, and law enforcement.

Job Requirements:

·       BA degree with an emphasis in Social Work, Migration Studies, Public Health, Refugee Studies, Development, Immigration Law, or an equivalent field of study; or 5+ years of related professional experience; preferably with asylum-seeking families, refugees, internally displaced persons, or individuals without status.

·       Previous case management and/or victims assistance experience in a social service, non-profit setting.

·       Previous multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds strongly preferred.

·       Thorough understanding of the U.S. immigration system and the rights of immigrants.

·       Comfortability collaborating with governmental agencies and community providers.

·       Strong English and Spanish written and verbal communication skills required.

·       Strong computer skills required. Prior experience using data and tracking systems strongly preferred.

·       Strong ability to multi-task and juggle various competing priorities.

·       Attention to detail and ability to organize and track large amounts of information efficiently and accurately.

·       Strong partnership building skills.

·       Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across all of IRC’s programs.

·       Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.

Working Environment: A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. May require weekend and/or evening work.
