This position is located in the Analytics Section of the Analytics and Project Management Service of the Business Transformation and Accountability Division (BTAD) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The incumbent reports to a Data Scientist.

Within delegated authority, the Data Science Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Assists with the preparation of input for response to requests for exploration, identification, and acquisition of data sources to determine their suitability for use in decision making and advancing the goals of the organization.
• Assists in supporting key clients to leverage the use of data science methods through solutions agreed by the team and in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists with the preparation of input for the design and development of data science products.
• Assists in providing client training and developing products, tools and processes to extend the capabilities of client offices.
• Adjusts customized visualization and presentation products to reveal the findings of analysis for clients.
• Assists with the preparation of data sets and responds to queries; and maintains/updates web pages.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Professionalism: Ability to analyze a wide variety of data, identify and resolve data discrepancies. Is able to use internal and external data sources. Knowledge of visualization, machine learning/AI, statistical methods, Data Science tools, Statistical Programming Languages and Tools for large datasets. High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of five years of experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, or related area is required.
Hands-on experience with the development of analytical tools and products such as management dashboards is required.
Experience with MVC or ECS development model using Vanilla JS is desirable.
Experience working with different types of data sources (e.g. CSV, SQLite DB) is desirable.
Experience with analytical tools such as R, knime, Python or equivalent is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.Assessment
