The overall objective of the UNEP's Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities (http://www.unep.fr/).
This post is located in Economy Division's Finance Initiative Unit at the Geneva duty station.
Under the direct supervision of the Head of UNEP FI, the incumbent will support the Unit in the implementation of the Finance Initiative's work programme and participate in the preparation, implemention and accomplishment of the objectives approved in the Project Documents, with a specific (but not exclusive) focus on the Finance Initiative's thematic work on Positive Impacts. The incumbent will be responsible for the duties below:
• Defining and maintaining UNEP FI’s SDG & Impact strategy with a view to ensuring that SDGs and impact management can be effectively mainstreamed in the global financial system, starting with UNEP FI’s members. Defining and coordinating UNEP FI’s SDG & Impact work programme with the aim of making UNEP FI a market leader in the field.
• Develops, implements and evaluates assigned programmes/projects; monitors and analyzes programme /project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions. Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
• Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources. Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
• Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions. Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
• Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.
• Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
• Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries.
• Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget).
• Performs other duties as required.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, business or a related area.
A relevant first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least seven years of professional working experience relating to finance and the environment, of which minimum two years at the international level is required.
Technical skill in the area of Finance and Economics, including but not limited to, Financial Risk Management and Environmental Economic Theories is desirable.
Work experience in financial risk management is desirable.
Experience in developing work programs for a variety of private and public stakeholders in the finance sector, including capital market players such as financial regulators, commercial and investment banks is desirable.
Work experience with United Nations or similar organization is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, oral and written fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable.
NOTE: "fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
