The Global Policy & Advocacy Department (P&A) is a dynamic team whose mission is to use the IRC’s field knowledge, role as expert witness, evidence and solutions to shift the agenda and decisions of policy makers for the benefit of our clients. The P&A team seeks to develop the IRC as a thought leader, and drive transformational change in the humanitarian sector. Specifically, we work to achieve improvements in aid effectiveness through evidence-based solutions; speak out on challenges facing the people we seek to assist; and to promote solutions for protracted displacement.
Job Overview: The Policy Project Manager handles planning, logistics and relationship management needed to develop collaborative policy/advocacy products, events and activities, and to convene internal and external experts to better understand and identify solutions for specific policy issues facing our clients. The Manager will work closely with colleagues on the Policy and Advocacy Team, the Marketing and Mobilization Team, programmatic units and other internal partners to plan and supervise the implementation of rapid and long-term projects, including developing project plans, handling coordination communications and tracking progress. The Manager will identify external experts to engage on specific projects, facilitate strategic meetings, coordinate production of policy products and events, and develop external amplification opportunities. This position reports to the Senior Director of Planning and Operations.
- Partner with the Senior Director and Policy and Advocacy colleagues in the design and implementation of policy projects, products and activities, ensuring that planning and logistics enable diverse participation
- Develop detailed project plans to establish roles and responsibilities, set timelines and deliverables, track progress and oversee projects from concept to completion
- Communicate with partners at all levels, including leading kickoff meetings, project reviews, and ongoing project updates
- Support the development of, and lead the execution of, departmental communications and internal organization-wide communications, and external communications as relevant
- Provide knowledgeable, professional, and efficient support to relevant internal partners
- Identify and develop project tools, templates and workflow trackers
- Establish and maintain relationships with external experts and vendors to plan and implement convenings
- Work closely with Senior Director to handle consultant hiring and payment, manage expenses and oversee grant spending and reporting
- Coordinate event logistics both in-person and online

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
Work Experience: 3-6 years’ experience ideally in project management, public policy or communications
- Experience in project management or production coordination preferably for policy or advocacy work
- Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and adaptively in a highly collaborative, interdependent team environment
- Solid understanding of project management methodology including the ability to develop detailed project plans, budgets, status reports etc.
- Knowledge of design and copy writing/editing processes
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office products
- Experience with grant management
- Familiarity with humanitarian aid sector
- Familiarity with public policy and advocacy strategies
Working Environment: Standard Office Environment - this role may require working remotely part time.
