Senior Project Manager

PURPOSE:

This position will work to further the impact of World Renew in areas affected by conflict related humanitarian emergencies.  They will work on the development of multi-year proposals and project implementation in areas of chronic emergencies.  Working closely with our Ministry Team colleagues and international partners, the incumbent will development proposals that are well formulated (i.e. technically sound, cost effective, efficient and in keeping with best practice) and in-line with institutional donor requirements.  They will also develop templates and orientation material to help guide the proposal development processes.  They will work with colleagues and international partners to manage the implementation of programs.  This will include coaching, teaching and, at times, direct supervision.  The position will also work to strengthen disaster response capacity within the organization by, among other things, working to further develop our nexus programming.  Finally, the position will work to strengthen the organization’s position with Global Affairs Canada, international networks and alliances, such as ACT and Integral, and contribute to collaboration within the team.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  1.  Support the realization of World Renew’s work in complex emergencies, including conflict affected areas:
    1.  Oversee a large portfolio of projects in conflict affected context (e.g. Syria)
    2.  Establish contextual plans for areas impacted by complex, chronic or protracted emergencies
    3.  Identify new partnerships with existing networks to develop fundable concept notes and full-proposals for submission to various donors, including private donors.
    4.  Represent World Renew in working groups related to complex emergencies.
  2.  Develops World Renew staff and international partners programming by providing direction, guidance, input and review of proposals and ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
    1.  Provide direction, support, coaching and mentoring to World Renew staff developing and approving country specific concept notes and project proposals, annual work plans and budgets, and M&E plans.
    2.  Liaise with World Renew Country Director, Finance Officers to ensure alignment of World Renew projects with World Renew Policy and practices. Ensure the full alignment of new proposals with donor criteria and requirements.
    3.  Lead processes that ensures that timely and accurate reports are submitted to World Renew IDR and other back funders, providing feedback to staff and partners on needed revisions and editing reports as necessary to ensure that the quality/compliance standards are met.
    4.  Ensure organizational Safeguarding and Gender policies are promoted and applied across all facets of work. Provide specific gender and safeguarding advice to projects in the proposal development process.
    5.  Lead the development and implementation of an appropriate monitoring and evaluation plan, based on humanitarian and gender transformative, empowerment and people-centred principles.
    6.  Manages a significant portfolio (+/- 5M) of approved projects upon assignment by the Director and/or Deputy Director. 
    7.  Analyze narrative and financial reports from the field, comparing results to plans and following up on variances.
    8.  Review and approve fund transfers and plan and follow-up with country-level finance managers on partner level finance capacity assessments.
    9.  Represent World Renew on relevant external working groups or taskforces.   
  3.  Technical Guidance and Capacity Building
    1.   Develop templates and tools to support humanitarian and disaster response in complex emergencies.  This include technical manual, programmatic templates, manuals and operational tools for support services.
    2.   Lead the development and capacity strengthening of Core Humanitarian Standards and Practices by developing tools and resources for use in World Renew Field offices, to strengthen humanitarian and gender transformative, empowerment and people-centred projects in complex emergencies.
  4.   Attend and participate in meetings of the IDR team, and contribute to a team culture of mutual support, accountability and learning.
  5.  Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

QUALIFICAITONS:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 
 
1.       Membership in a Christian church, commitment to and ability to articulate a Christian worldview, particularly as it relates to World Renew’s vision, mission, values and programs
2.       Exceptional writing abilities with demonstrated record on writing successful proposals
3.       Strong team player with proven and demonstrable collaboration and communication skills
4.       Commitment to a programming approach emphasizing participation and empowerment
5.       Experience working with SPHERE Standards and Core Humanitarian Standards, particularly in the practical application 
6.       Demonstrated understanding of the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) and the related guidance on humanitarian action
7.       Excellent organizational and time management skills; demonstrated skill in prioritizing and balancing multiple competing tasks, projects, and deadlines
8.       Demonstrated competence in planning programs and evaluating program quality
9.       Highly proficient in word processing, spreadsheet software and relevant project management software
10.   Demonstrated commitment to contribute to and promote a work environment that values diversity, inclusion and equity
11.   Committed to working towards gender equality, equity and justice in all aspects of our programming, plans, policies and organizational structure
12.   Experience with PowerBI a definite asset
13.   Facilitation skills desired

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree, Master’s degree preferred, in a related field and at least ten years of work experience in humanitarian response, preferably in chronic or complex contexts.  At least six years in project management and three years of supervisory experience.  Experience with Global Affairs Canada, USAID or ECHO humanitarian funding is strongly preferred.

LANGUAGE:

Written and oral fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is an asset.
