The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and training to all Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Program.
This position is located in the Platform Support Unit (PSU) under the Infrastructure and Operations Section (IOS) of the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunication Technology (SGITT) at the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC), Valencia, Spain.
The Information Systems Assistant will work under supervision of the Chief Platform Support Unit or other designated Officer.
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
•Acts as focal point for receipt and processing of user requests.
•Provides basic technical support on relevant hardware and software systems applications in assigned area.
•Installs application systems software and hardware according to specifications.
•Provides basic support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems; works with senior IT staff on the definition and specification of requirements; builds, tests and modifies prototype application software based on detailed instructions; installs and maintains software systems.
•Supports senior staff in the creation and maintenance of application software within Lotus Notes, Microsoft Access and web-based architectures, etc.; assists in the preparation of technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials.
•Provides support on software development matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications.
•Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required.
•Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.
•Maintains, and troubleshot issues related to on-premises identity related services using Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services and related services.
•Maintains, and troubleshot issues related with cloud identity based on Microsoft Azure Active Directory technology and related cloud services.
•Manages, creates, produces, and maintains technical documentation for relevant Identity systems; manages and administers changes to technical documentation in accordance with prevailing change management and operation procedures.
•Performs other related duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.Job - Specific Qualification
Certification in IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v.4 Foundation in Service Management is desirable.Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required.
Experience in planning, designing, development, implementation, maintenance of hybrid identity systems using Microsoft technologies, operating systems at scale or related area is required.
Experience in managing virtual environments, monitoring tools, public cloud services or related area is desirable.
Experience in working in a process-oriented service support, DevOps, service delivery environment or related area is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.Assessment

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Service category in the United Nations Secretariat. Having passed the Administrative Assessment Support Test (ASAT) in English at Headquarters, ECA, ESCWA, UNOG, UNOV, ICTR, or ICTY may be recognized in place of the GGST, pending confirmation of validity.
