Job Purpose

Under the supervision of Senior Scientist - Water Management, plan, design and implement experiments and other research activities related to digital tools for efficient water management.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines. 

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Plan, design and implement experiments and other research activities related to digital tools for efficient water management
  • Adopt a standard operating procedure for the development of digital tools
  • Provide hardware manufacturing support and quality control for water monitoring sensors
  • Exchange conceptual ideas with collaborating partners (national/international) and seek feedback
  • Select adequate research tools and equipment
  • Assist in the identification of support staff and assign tasks/responsibilities
  • Supervise, coordinate and provide feedback on the work of research technicians to ensure that research activities are implemented according to plan and standards
  • Provide technical backstopping to collaborators, stakeholders, and scholars, considering the implementation of experiment(s) and instrumentation including the logistics
  • Supervise partners in the development of digital tools
  • Maintain smooth conduct of instrumentation and experiment(s) by troubleshooting and fostering a productive teamwork environment
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Evaluate and suggest to the supervisor workable plans for the development of digital tools
  • Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data related to; summarize and validate using appropriate tools, and assist in the interpretation of results about the performance of digital tools with timely reporting/presentation
  • Upload, maintain and update Github and other databases for efficient storage and retrieval of data and information
  • Assist in the development of annual reports and publications in refereed journals as well as presentations and posters to be used innational and international conferences
  • Produce a working prototype of digital tools for efficient water management
  • Assist in the interpretation of the results of data collected in testing performance of digital tool for efficient water management
  • Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data related to digital tools for efficient water management
  • Submit an updated reports on the development of digital tools for efficient water management as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and/or Applied Physics with at least 4 years relevant work experience
  • Master of Science in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and/or Applied Physics with at least 2 year relevant work experience
Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Experience on IoT-based hardware designing, software development/hardware programming
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Has ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Can effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred

  • Has experience working in an international work environment
  • Has experience with rice landscape
  • Knowledge on the use of Upverter, Express PCB, or any PCB design software
  • Basic experience in electronic board manufacturing using PCB printers and pick and place machines
  • Knowledge in Python and C programming language
