Background:

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (POiD) promotes the implementation of OSCE principles and commitments. With special emphasis on the regional context, it assists Tajikistan in tackling problems and threats to security, supports conflict prevention and crisis management measures. As such, it works in areas such as border management, police reform, counter-terrorism and small arms and light weapons stockpiling and storage. The POiD supports the development of the rule of law and democratic political institutions and processes, including the respect for human rights.
 

 

Objective of Assignment: 

The POiD is updating its Roster of Translators and Interpreters available to provide services in Dushanbe, in the regions of Khatlon, Khujand, Rasht and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast. 

For candidates to be placed on the Roster of free-lance language specialists one must have proven professional experience in translation and interpretation from: 

•    Turkish-Tajik and vice versa or
•    Turkish-Russian and vice versa

The candidates must clearly indicate the preferred language combination in provision of interpretation/translation services and the level of proficiency.

 

Duration of Assignment:

Successful applicants will be placed on the Office’s consultancy Roster and maybe hired for specific translation/interpretation tasks upon completion of the selection process.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the relevant hiring manager, the language specialists will be tasked with the following duties:  
 

  1. Providing consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation during bilateral meetings and Office’s project activities, such as seminars, workshops, conferences, and roundtables;
  2. Providing written translation services of project and training related documents and other required materials; formatting the translated text in line with professional standards; proof-reading the text, ensuring consistency in style and terminology.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan;
  • University degree in translation/interpretation, humanities or related field;
  • Professional experience in translation/Interpretation;
  • Professional knowledge of Turkish, Tajik or Russian languages;
  • Knowledge of other languages will be an asset;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Strong ability to work under deadline pressure and meet strict deadlines;
  •  Ability to cope with physical hardship and willingness to work extra hours and in an environment with limited infrastructure;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
  • Ability and willingness to work as a member of team, with people of different cultural, and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

 

Remuneration Package:

Remuneration will be based on the selected consultant's/expert's qualifications, experience, the tasks and deliverables for this position and in accordance with the OSCE established rates.
