UNOPS has been present in Bangladesh since 2003. In 2014 UNOPS established as formal representation as a response to the UNOPS Executive Board in order to provide more substantial support to the Government of Bangladesh and other clients in the different areas focusing to Resilient Infrastructure Approach, Program & Project Management, Fund Management, Procurement, Human Resources, Financial Management  emphasizing on building national capacities, improving resilience of communities with a view of contributing to the implementation of the SDGs.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Partnerships Specialist, the Communications Intern will undertake the following duties and responsibilities, as relevant and applicable based on the detailed work plan to be established with the incumbent.

  • Support the updating of Bangladesh Office communication strategy and plan, as well as relevant engagement with LKMCO offices

  • Assist in drafting high-quality copy for external news stories, newsletter, factsheets and web content with special focus on social media platforms.

  • Contribute to the development and drafting of concept notes, proposals, presentations, etc.

  • Ensure data and visualization quality in internal and external communications such as Intranet, Presentations, monthly newsletters, and brochures.

  • Assist with developing outreach and other events in coordination with the HQ Communication Group and LKMCO units.

  • Support the editing and publishing of project content, including blog posts, factsheets, posters, videos and other materials for print and electronic publication;

  • Support the strategic planning of communication campaigns for UN international days and other corporate initiatives;

  • Provides design support to briefing documents for executive stakeholders and learning material in terms of enhancing presentation as required;

  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of project communication content, including the preparation of quarterly report reviews and monthly analytics reports;

  • Performs any other duties within their professional competence as required to support project objectives.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed (within 3 years prior to the application date of the internship) a Bachelor/Master’s/Ph.D. Degree in developmental studies, journalism, communications or related field.
  • Professional qualification proven to be equivalent to a university degree shall be considered.
  • Completion of an Advanced University Degree in the relevant areas is a strong asset

Experience:

  • Prior social media and/or communications experience is preferred;
  • Knowledge of digital media, visual communications and interactive storytelling methods is highly desired;
  • An understanding of development, humanitarian or international affairs is preferred;
  • Knowledge of podcasting is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of design and experience with design programmes (Adobe photoshop, Canva, etc.) is an asset.
  • Excellent English writing skills are required.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and software packages (Google Suite/Workspace Office) and experience in handling web-based systems and social media platforms  is highly desirable. Knowledge of graphic design is highly desired.

Language:

  • Fluency in English  is required. Working knowledge of Bangla is preferred.

Contract type, level and duration

Contract duration: 12 months

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend  from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
