The Project aims to invest in intercultural dialogue and decrease social distance among different ethnic groups through the following anticipated results:
1) Young people from different backgrounds and communities are connected via nature, adventure tourism, and environmental protection, and their interaction helps reduce prejudices, restore trust and cultivate respect for cultural diversity.
2) Enhanced knowledge, leadership and future-thinking serve as an intercultural bridge among young people from divided communities and contribute to affirming shared values.
The Project will foster intercultural dialogue and interaction among young people from different ethnic and religious groups and geographic locations around nature, science, tourism, and environment protection causes, ultimately contributing to bridging the social and cultural divides and restoring trust among young people. Health safety Covid-19 (post) pandemic-related measures will be respected and applied in line with the relevant recommendations, whereby implementation tools utilized to achieve project results will be adjusted accordingly.
The project will be implemented during the period 2021 - 2023 in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Republika Srpska, AICS / the Embassy of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Objective
To develop and implement a set of communication / promotion and visibility actions to embed learning, awareness-raising and disseminate information among target groups about project activities, with a focus on intercultural dialogue and interaction among young people from different ethnic and religious groups and geographic locations around nature, science, tourism and environment protection causes, climate change, and environmental footprint reduction, as well as circular (green) economy and encourage further interaction with stakeholders in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to conceptualize, design, and develop a set of communication/promotion and visibility actions in the service of learning and awareness-raising in line with the project objectives.
The selected expert is expected to closely coordinate with the Project Manager, Project Communication Assistant, and the UNDP Head of Communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Expert in Awareness Raising is expected to conceptualize, design, and develop a set of communication / promotion and visibility actions that will embed learning and awareness-raising into the project activities, which promote intercultural dialogue and interaction among young people from different ethnic and religious groups and geographic locations around nature, science, tourism, and environment protection causes.
Summary of key functions:
Task 1:
- Develop the project communication/promotion plan with a timetable of project awareness-raising and communication / promotional activities up to the end of project implementation. This task foresees desk review of the BRIDGE project documents and other relevant documents provided by the project team.
- Propose concrete solutions and approaches, as well as a set of standards for appearance and content development for communication with the stakeholders, public and media.
- Explore and propose innovative project awareness-raising and promotional tools, actions, and materials matching the objective of the project and support the project staff in implementing actions, using the tools, and procuring the materials.
- Design the communication / PR / promotion strategy approach for the project activities:
- Organization of 3 four-day Via Dinarica Youth Adventure Camps for young people with participation of up to 50 young people.
- Organization of 2 three-day Via Dinarica Youth Adventure Camps for children with participation of up to 30 children.
- Organization of a three-day Via Dinarica Youth Games Without Borders for up to 150 young people.
- Marking / celebration of 4 international days such as International Day of Environment, International Day of Waters, International Day of Mountains, etc at Via Dinarica locations.
- Organization of 3 five-day joint regional youth campaigns for cleaning, greening, community works and actions as well as Via Dinarica trail marking for up to 50 young people.
- Organization of two national TED Youth Talks, including proactive promotion.
- Organization of the Youth Innovation Challenge in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including designing possible terms of reference or description of tasks.
- Other activities which could be defined during the project.
Number of days envisaged under this task: 6.
Travel envisaged under this task: maximum number of travel days will not exceed 2 days – meetings with BRIDGE project team in Mostar or Sarajevo.
Task 2:
- Support in implementation of designed communication / PR / promotion strategy approach for the project activities:
- Organization of 3 four-day Via Dinarica Youth Adventure Camps for young people with participation of up to 50 young people.
- Organization of 2 three-day Via Dinarica Youth Adventure Camps for children with participation of up to 30 children.
- Marking / celebration of 5 international days such as International Day of Environment, International Day of Waters, International Day of Mountains, etc at Via Dinarica locations.
- Organization of 3 five-day joint regional youth campaigns for cleaning, greening, community works and actions as well as Via Dinarica trail marking for up to 50 young people.
- Organization of two national TED Youth Talks including proactive promotion.
- Organization of the Youth Innovation Challenge in Bosnia and Herzegovina including designing possible terms of reference or description of tasks.
- Organization of a three-day Via Dinarica Youth Games Without Borders for up to 150 young people.
- Other activities which could be defined during the project.
Number of days envisaged under this task: 45.
Travel envisaged under this task: maximum number of travel days will not exceed 5 days to selected locations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (average round trip: 300 km).
Task 3:
- Provide monthly reports to the Project Manager outlining implemented activities and achieved results with the detailed quarterly communication / promotion plans.
Number of days envisaged under this task: 3.
All activities suggested should take into consideration available resources and budget as well as be feasible and cost effective. All the above listed tasks shall be performed under the supervision of Project Manager in cooperation with the Head of UNDP Communications, Project Communication Assistant, and other project staff.
The Consultant must ensure timely preparation and submission of all deliverables as mentioned before. The deliverables provided will be reviewed in terms of quality and approved by the UNDP BRIDGE/Via Dinarica Project Manager in consultations with the UNDP Head of Communications and Project Communication assistant. The deliverables have to be submitted in English (mandatory) and languages of BiH (if and when required).
Payments for deliverables will be lump sum based as per deliverable, including local travel costs.

Required Skills and Experience
Academic Qualifications/Education
University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or other closely related field.
Experience
- At least 7 years of professional experience working in PR and/or communications;
- Experience in promoting a project and/or brand through organization of different events, promotion in social and standard media and in preparation of relevant materials;
- Experience in projects or activities involving youth, their activism and/or peace building issues;
- Previous work for UN agencies or international organization will be considered as an asset.
Languages Requirements
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills in the official languages in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the English language.
Other Requirements
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office applications) and ability to use information technologies as a tool and resource.
- Excellent usage of online communication tactics (social media, SEO etc.) and communications monitoring and listening tools to reach communication goals.
