International Consultancy - Project Management Unit

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a highly skilled, results-oriented Project Management consultant to support the Project Management Unit (PMU) leadership in assessing and addressing gaps in knowledge, processes and tools applied in project management activities within the PMU. 

 This consultancy combines skills and experience in project and financial management, donor compliance and monitoring for impact; to support PMU in increasing knowledge and capacity in the delivery of daily effective project management at all stages of the project lifecycle.

 Expected duration and conditions:

Objectives:

  •  Assess and address gaps in knowledge, processes and tools applied in project management activities within the PMU. 
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the PMU Head with identifying areas for capacity building of the PMU Team, review of guidelines and compilation of current know how in the design of a PMU manual for CIP, pulling all current documentation in a single place
  • Coordinate refresher training for the PMU staff on processes documented in the PMU Manual.

Deliverables:

  1. Weekly assessment report to the Head of PMU for issues raised by/discussed with the PMU team or other CIP support areas
  2. End of month one – review report of knowledge gaps and areas for further documentation, based on weekly reports and review of current documentation and processes across the lifecycle
  3. End of month two - Draft succession plan for PMU leadership with clear steps, actions and estimated timelines in a RACI format
  4. End of month two – Draft version of the CIP PMU manual compiling existing documentation for processes across the lifecycle, complemented by additional documentation for gaps in processes
  5. End of month three - Final version of the CIP PMU manual, after review and approval by PMU leadership
  6. End of month four - Organization and delivery of an online retreat (3 days broken into 2-3 hour slots) for PMU staff reviewing the key areas of the PMU manual

 

Qualifications/special skills

  • Master’s degree in Project Management, International Development, MBA, Political Science, Business or related studies
  • Specialty: Project Management
  • Expertise required:
    • Strong Project Management Experience
    • Proven experience implementing and monitoring strategies and establishing long term partnerships
    • Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, make recommendations effectively, and execute plans of action within a team dynamic
    • Detailed knowledge of current best practice according to the working unit                                      
  • At least 12 years of relevant work experience in an international organization/ NGOs and having been exposed to various cultures.                                              
  • Excellent organization and prioritization  
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Solid experience in project management (specifically in Agile project management)
  • Excellent English writing skills (Spanish a plus)
  • Strong financial management skills (budget and Estimates to Complete preparation experience a plus)
