The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world.  UNOPS supports partners to build a better future by providing services that increase the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of peace building, humanitarian and development projects.  Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.  


Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Communications Manager and working closely with the Multimedia Communications Officer, the Video Animator will provide high-quality animation services for both external and internal corporate videos and communications products. The animator should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, with a high level of creativity along with the ability to create illustrations, animations and motion graphics that help convey complex themes in a compelling and engaging manner. The video animator ensures the effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, and the timely follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.
Please note that this is a retainer contract to carry out short-term work packages when required.

Functional Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions  


  • Create animations, motion graphics and other visual design products to support UNOPS video products and other communications work.


1.   Provides high-quality animations and visual design products

  • Creation of animated video products that tell stories about UNOPS and its work both externally and internally, and for a variety of platforms and audiences.

  • Creation of animated infographics and motion graphics to help convey messages and complex ideas and data in an engaging way.

  • Creation of different language versions of animations and video products using translations provided by UNOPS.

  • Development of scripts or creative concepts for animations as and when requested.

  • Management of deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of final edited animations and video products, including project files and assets in accordance with timelines agreed at the start of the project.

  • Provision of all necessary software and editing equipment to perform assignments.

  • Follows branding guidelines to ensure animations and video products are reflective of the fonts, colours, logo requirements and overall style of UNOPS visual products.

  • Implements changes based on feedback from UNOPS teams in accordance with agreed timelines

The key results will have an impact on the overall ability of UNOPS to communicate and promote its work visually and in an engaging manner both on its website and social media channels and as part of longer format videos.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • A first-level university degree in animation, graphic design or a related field. Relevant licenses, diplomas or certifications and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.

  • An advanced university degree in a relevant field may be accepted and can compensate for certain years of experience.

  • Formal training in animation design is an asset.

Experience:
  • Two years of accumulated work experience in graphic design and/or animation.

  • Experience working with advanced animation and editing software.

  • Experience producing illustrations and animations for both social media videos as well as for longer-form documentary and informative videos.

  • Experience producing content for not-for-profit organizations and/or international news outlets is an asset.

Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
