Job Overview:  

The  International  Rescue  Committee  (IRC)  is  one  of  the  leading  providers  of  high-quality  programming  for refugees resettling to the United States. Switchboard is a one-stop resource hub for refugee service providers in the United States, supported by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and implemented by the IRC in partnership with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS). Switchboard is seeking a Program Officer for Web Design. Switchboard provides training and capacity-building services to ORR-funded refugee service providers in the United States, including resettlement agencies and affiliates, state agencies, ethnic community-based organizations, and others. The Program Officer for Web Design will be responsible for improving and maintaining the design of the Switchboard website (www.SwitchboardTA.org). This position is remote and may be located anywhere in the United States.

Major Responsibilities:

Website Design

·       Lead efforts to ensure design of Switchboard website is user-friendly, accessible, and visually engaging.

·       Research and recommend best practices for design of online resource libraries/databases.

·       Design mockups, pages, prototypes, buttons, and interactive elements as needed.

·       Meet with stakeholders to review website mockups/designs and run tests to preview layouts and website features

·       Incorporate Switchboard’s existing branding guidelines (colors, fonts, etc.) into website’s design aesthetics.

·       Together with Program Officer, Web Development and external vendor, update and maintain the site and assist with backing up the site as needed.

·       As needed, support Program Officer, Web Development with fixes to functionality issues, including the removal of “dead links”.

·       As needed, design social media and other online graphics to be disseminated by Digital Content Manager.

 

Project Management and M&E

  • Together with Program Officer, Web Development, track data on website access and user experience, as well as feedback data collected through user testing.
  • Based on data collected, elevate issues as needed and make recommendations for enhancements.
  • Provide input into Switchboard reports, including monthly activity updates and semi-annual Performance Progress Reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in web design or other relevant field (or equivalent experience)

·       WordPress design experience

·       Working knowledge of HTML and CSS

·       Experience with design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop)

·       Understanding of user experience/user interface (UX/UI) design

·       Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO)

·       Good visual design sense

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills

·       Ability to effectively manage complex projects with strict timelines

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • 3+ years’ professional experience in WordPress design
  • A portfolio of design work
  • Familiarity with design of online resource libraries or other websites focused on training, professional development, or education
  •  Familiarity with refugee resettlement and integration services  
  • Experience engaging with external vendors and/or consultants

Working Environment:  Standard office and/or remote working environment. This role may require working remotely full or part time and part time remote employees may be required to share workspace.
