Job Overview

The International Rescue Committee's (IRC) External Relations (ER) department enables the IRC to respond to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Within ER, the USA Philanthropy team leads on the organization’s work with USA-based High-Net-Worth Individuals. We're seeking a high-powered Leadership Giving Officer to join our team!

A dynamic front-line fundraiser, the Leadership Giving Officer will help drive revenue growth through the strategic management a portfolio of leadership giving prospects (defined as donors, prospective donors, and suspects with wealth capacity ratings of at least $100K and up to $499K). With a national focus on IRC’s leadership giving donors, the Officer is a relationship manager throughout the donor life cycle and roots IRC’s presence in key revenue-generating cities to build a strong pipeline of leadership gift donor prospects and grow revenue across the region.

 

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial professional who excels at front-line relationship building and devising prospecting strategies. They will craft and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects with the capacity to give five and six- figure leadership gifts. As a collaborative and strategic problem-solver, the Officer will work closely with the team's Director and IRC leadership to handle high-level partnerships and opportunities. The Officer also will collaborate across the External Relations team to secure proposals, donor engagement communications and touch points, and stewardship reports.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage portfolio of up to 200 leadership giving capacity donors, prospects, and suspects that results in retaining donors and realizing ever-growing size gifts at the high five and six-figure level.
  •  Travel and meet with portfolio of national donors, prospects, and suspects
  • Implement front-line activities resulting in funds raised personally and when appropriate with the help of IRC leaders and program staff at the six and seven-figure level.
  • Achieve goals and metrics related to donor visits, solicitations, gifts, and pledges closed, and other important metrics, supervising progress using software applications.

Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience with demonstrated expertise in individual giving, especially closing five and six -figure gifts.
  •  Experience with Planned Giving a plus.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Work successfully in a sophisticated, fast-paced organization serving multiple partners.
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and stick to timelines.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team structure.
  • Have a can-do personality, flexible disposition, and adaptability skills to handle quick-moving and shifting priorities in a positive way.
  • Experience using databases required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  •  Advanced degrees and/or related certifications a plus.

 

 

Working Environment: This role requires working remotely full or part time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled work hours and may be required to share workspace when at the office. A successful candidate must be available to work some evenings, travel domestically as needed, and occasionally travel internationally.
