Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the JMAC Section of the Office of the Chief of Staff in the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA). The Data Analyst will be based in Hodeidah- Yemen and reports to the Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Data Analyst will undertake the following tasks:
• Gather information from various sources about peace and security situations of concerns and potential or actual threats, analyse such information, and produce analytical reports (both narrative and visual) on these issues, ensuring a proper flow and channels for information on security, military, and political information.
• As part of the above, support with data entry and management of the UN database, and produce regular reports, infographics, maps, and dashboards emanating from information in the database.
• Use the new Spatio-Temporal Incident Mapping tool in order to assess the effect of operations and other mission activities.
• Support the Chief of Staff in his/her advisory role to the HoM, especially as regards the analysis of the latest developments on the Mandate implementation and related issues.
• Represent the Section in events and training, including conducting capacity-building sections for different audiences.
• Help ensure that the latest findings, lessons learned, policy guidelines, etc. are incorporated into the above activities, including gender-related considerations.
• Liaise with Mission/UNCT/HCT staff to support them in their functions by analyzing and assessing threats and creating a fruitful data exchange.
• When working with national personnel or (non-)governmental counterparts, the staff is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for training, coaching, mentoring and capacity development.
• Perform other relevant duties as required by the supervisor.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, data science, analytics, mathematics, statistics, information management, public administration, management or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, information management, statistics, project management, stakeholder management or related area is required.

Experience in using data to inform decisions, strategies and execution is required.

Experience in business analysis of complex, interlocking processes and systems is required.

Experience in data exchange and building data models for system integration analysis in the context of enterprise applications development, specifically SAP is required.

Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (SAP Business Objects, etc.) is desirable.

Experience with enterprise resource planning and management systems, such as Umoja/SAP, is desirable.

Experience with conference and event management enterprise applications is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by an informal interview.
