Background:

 

 

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo’s (OSCE) core mandate focuses on institution- and democracy-building, as well as human rights. It works mainly in the areas of democratization and good governance, the protection and promotion of human and community rights, and public safety and security.
The Governance Section of the Democratization Department works to enhance good governance across branches and levels of government, working in particular to facilitate inter-institutional co-ordination for more effective, transparent, and inclusive governance processes. Among its counterparts are the Assembly of Kosovo, Central Elections Commission, Ministry of Local Government Administration, numerous independent institutions, and executive and legislative bodies of municipal governments. 


Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

 

Duration of Internship is six-months    

 

 

The international intern will learn about the work of OSCE Mission in Kosovo, and be acquainted with the work of the Governance Section of the Democratization Department, supporting its ongoing work with institutional counterparts of all governance levels in Kosovo, under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section. 

 

 

  • Conduct literature reviews, research, and analysis of governance topics both regarding Kosovo and in the framework of good practice studies and comparative research, and provide briefs and written reports as needed;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis, including comparative legal studies;
  • Support in drafting, editing, and compiling various team documents and reports;
  • Support in monitoring and evaluating the team’s implementation of activities and programming, and identifying adaptation strategies where needed;
  • Participate in meetings with interlocutors, counterparts, and other international organizations and draft briefings and action points where applicable;
  • Assist, at the request of the Chief of Section and in collaboration with team members, in supporting activities of the Governance Section;
  • Assist in designing and drafting communications materials and the Governance Section’s communications strategy;
  • Perform other duties and tasks as instructed by the Chief of Governance Section.



Necessary Qualifications:

 

  • Be not older than 30 years on the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice and have completed two years of full-time post-secondary education in an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in political sciences, social sciences, international relations, public policy or law no longer than two years before the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice; 
  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills, including experience in legal analysis and in conducting needs assessments;
  • Good organizational skills with ability to identify, process and classify information quickly and efficiently;
  • Previous international experience;
  • Excellent computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity; 
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English;
  • Knowledge of the Western Balkans and Kosovo, or a demonstrated ability to learn, are desirable.

 

Remuneration Package:

 

In lieu of remuneration the OSCE Mission in Kosovo will contribute towards the cost of living of international interns who are non-residents at the duty station (place of assignment), such compensation is equivalent to 10% of the applicable BLA rate. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme. The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
