Advocacy Manager [Neglected Crises, Global]

Are you looking to be part of a global team that seeks to conduct integrated strategic advocacy to raise attention from the European Policy Makers? We are looking for an experienced Advocacy Manager to support NRC in reinforcing its global advocacy capacity to raise attention to neglected crises, which receive limited public attention, limited funding, and have insufficient advocacy capacity.

What you will do

You will be responsible for conducting integrated strategic advocacy to ensure continued attention among European policymakers for some of today’s most neglected humanitarian crises. You will produce analysis from NRC’s programmes as well as and seek to create additional awareness about the global ripple effects of the Ukraine crisis. The project will specifically target European institutions and member states.

Some of your specific duties include:

  • Develop sections of the overall advocacy strategy and ensure that objectives from the Amplifying Advocacy for Neglected Crises project are reflected. 
  • Lead on specific deliverables to the overall strategy for the Amplifying Advocacy for Neglected Crises project.
  • Compile findings and research from across the NRC country operations, and carry out assessments as needed.
  • Develop, manage and undertake specific research activities with the aim of providing analysis and evidence to support the Amplifying Advocacy for Neglected Crises project.   
  • Accountable for drafting policy and advocacy products such as briefing notes, position papers, talking points, key messages, and ad-hoc reports as relevant.
  • Draft press releases and social media output.
  • Represent the Amplifying Advocacy for Neglected Crises project, as relevant, in meetings with policymakers and carry out briefings, including in key European capitals

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have the following:

  • Minimum five years of relevant professional experience within the humanitarian, development, human rights, foreign policy, or similar field.
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, preferably in Asia, the Middle East, or Latin America.
  • Documented experience with humanitarian advocacy and the production of written materials (i.e. reports, briefing notes, position papers, talking, points, and key messages).
  • Documented experience with relevant thematic areas (displacement, durable solutions, protection, food security).
  • Ability to work with a wide range of actors, including government and regional entities.
  • Experience in carrying out assessments and focus group discussions.
  • Documented/proven results related to other key elements of the position’s responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of the international humanitarian system, policy and practice.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
  • Representation and public speaking experience are an advantage.
  • Prior experience with NRC is an advantage.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English, other languages such as French, Spanish or Arabic would be an asset.
