ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

 

This position is within the Research & Development unit of the Supply Chain Division (SCOD).

The unit manages a portfolio of innovative projects and as such the Business Strategy Officer (Supply Chain Officer - P4), requires a cross-functional knowledge in WFP (strategic sourcing, imports, logistics, warehouse management, inventory and asset management) and cross-technical skills to carry out duties.

The Business Strategy Officer assists the Chief of SCOD to carry out the digital transformation strategy set in the Supply Chain roadmap.

 

The business strategy officer reports directly to the Chief SCOD and will be pivotal in managing a pool of resources and the divisional stakeholders for delivering thoughtful, insightful, high-impact contributions across a range of "high-stakes" strategic outcomes for the roadmap. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Senior Budget and Programming Officer, you will be responsible for the following key duties:

 

  • Create value by understanding the WFP operations and SC industry to provide guidance and incorporate innovative ideas that showcase the need for improvement and strategic directions,
  • Proactively involves other WFP divisions and services, and cross-industry resources to support SC transformation; 
  • Performs complex analyses, strategic problem solving and research that supports quick and efficient decision making in ambiguous situations
  • Provide input on platforms and architecture adoption and synergies that contribute to operating in a collaborative and streamlined ecosystem by leading the efforts to operate and scale efficiently
  • Provides an implementation plan to the SCOD strategic plan according to the priorities discussed with Chief.
  • Manages fund management for the business unit and ensures efficient and effective collaboration with the division budget management team.
  • Manages a pool of cross-team resources according to the needs of the various projects.
  • Engage with stakeholders focusing on takeaways 
  • Review the current project portfolio and readjust as necessary according to the project portfolio prioritization matrix.
  • Prepare reports and analyses to support management decision making.  
  • Represent the unit at internal meetings/committees/working groups as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION: 

 

  • Advanced degree or a First University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Project Management, MIS or related with additional relevant experience

 

EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • At least eight (8) years of relevant progressively responsible experience in Supply Chain, Business Process Improvement, strategy, management consulting and/or in issues relevant to the organizational context as indicated in the position above.
  • Extensive experience in leading or managing culturally diverse teams, experts or projects.
  • A track record of innovating or leveraging technology to improve ways of working in supply chain processes.

 

LANGUAGE:

 

  • Fluency (level C) in the English language. 
  • Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (A WFP’s working language

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

  • This is an International Professional position and is open to all nationalities.
  • Mobility is and continues to be, a core contractual requirement in WFP.
  • The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term as well as a rotational contract with a probationary period of one year.
