Mission and objectives

The UNICEF Office of Emergency Programmes coordinates the organization’s global support for humanitarian action, including through a security team and the 24/7 Operations Centre (OPSCEN), OPSCEN monitors humanitarian crises, political events and security-related incidents around the world with a view to ensuring the safety of staff and providing both field offices and senior decision-makers with critical information related to humanitarian emergencies. At UNICEF, we place people – men, women, families, children, adolescents – at the center of our work. To make sure our work is truly people-centered, we are committed to embedding Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) in everything we do.

Context

The Collective Service (CS) seeks to reinforce capacity and local solutions to humanitarian emergencies through mentoring, technical support and resource sharing with local actors and national and subnational governments. People working in community engagement and/or communications related fields face several limitations to the effective integration of social science in health emergency interventions and policymaking. There are gaps in terms of knowledge and capacity to produce and use operational social science research in humanitarian and health emergency contexts. This training package was developed to address these gaps by providing a set of modules with practical and detailed guidance for facilitators to adapt and use at the local level.

Task description

The volunteers will review the recently translated Portuguese (BR) version of the Social Science Training Package. The reviewing will involve the following tasks: - Compare the English and Portuguese (BR) translations and proofread to ensure the Portuguese (BR) version is grammatically and practically comprehensive and correct. - Make updates in track changes and comments in the Portuguese (BR) version wherever there is a change made. - Make additional changes as they might come up during the editing and design rounds.
