BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.

SCOPE OF VOLUNTEER WORK: The IRC’s financial capabilities programing supports newly arrived families in developing financial stability and economic security in the United States, through financial education, coaching, and access to financial products.

The Financial Capability intern will support the program by assisting in development financial education materials and financial resources for Ukrainian community members. The intern will also engage in outreach to external organizations as well putting together loan packages for clients. The ideal candidates will have prior experience working with immigrants and/or refugees in a social service setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develop financial education classes and recorded workshops in English and Ukrainian.

·         Provide translation support in the development of community resources and financial coaching tools.

·         Publicize new resources via teams’ channel, email list serv, and social media platforms.

·         Support publication and sharing of resources on website and other online platforms.

·         Assist in facilitation of monthly financial literacy/education workshops for clients.

·         Develop database of financial resources in each state.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.       The Intern will learn how to effectively manage nationwide financial capability programming.

2.       The Intern will learn about developing financial education curriculum and materials.

3.    The intern will gain experience with methods and technology used to disseminate learning

 

REQUIREMENTS:

·      Experience working with immigrants or refugees in a social service setting

·      Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in Ukrainian required

·      Experience with adult education or developing curriculum, a plus.

·      Must have good written and verbal English language skills

·      Basic computer skills (Microsoft Access and Word, E-mail)

·      Ability to pass a background check

·      Adhere to professional standards of confidentiality and boundary-setting

This position reports to the Senior Program Officer, Financial Capabilities.

 

This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.
