Context

KWMA (Kamiali Wild life Management Area) is one of the oldest WMA registered in 1997 by VDT (Village Development Trust Inc) a NGO and the people of Lababia. KWMA is located along Huon Gulf coastline, Salamua LLG, Morobe Province. After departure of VDT in 2003 the local people continue to maintain many development options/projects which were created inside KWMA to continue support community livelihoods. Out of many, one project very significant to the heart & souls of the the Lababia people is KRC (Kamiali Resource Centre). Tourist uses KRC facility for few hours whilst enjoying site seeing and bird watching and nature trail walk before they depart for other destinations in the country. KCP creates employment opportunities for many people in Lababia to take care of visiting scientists, forestry students and guests. KRC & KWMA offers training venue, accommodation and board & lodging facilities for visitors. VDT received grant from the World Bank and established this magnificent KRC facility. Twenty years ago, the neighboring village communities sold their forest resources to logging companies for instant cash whilst Lababia people decided for conservation initiatives. This decision has paid off through KRC facility made an instant impact in the lives of the people of Lababia and the work of conservation protection in Huon Gulf coastline, Morobe Province and PNG. KRC provides the multiple co-benefits to the people of Lababia and promotes the face value of Conservation work in PNG.
