The Role

At Last Mile Health, we make bold commitments that inspire innovation. Are you a skilled project manager with prior experience in improving community health systems in diverse country contexts? If so, you may be our next Manager, Health Systems Strengthening. 

The Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) team aims to combine deep technical knowledge of community health performance with improvements in the enabling health systems and an understanding of the vision and process for health systems reform in partnership and support of our country teams. 

Reporting to the Director, Clinical Excellence, the Manager, HSS, will lead community health systems technical advisory in support of country priorities in Last Mile Health’s program portfolio. This position will manage the execution of community health systems engagements with a specific focus on clinical excellence. Some workstream examples include:  

  • Primary Health Care Training and Supervision
  • Health Workforce Performance Management
  • Policy Development, Design, Management, and Governance
  • Coalition building and government engagement
  • Health Information Systems for Primary Health Care

This position is only open to candidates who are Ghanian Nationals currently located in Ghana.

What You'll Do

  • Directly manage the execution of community health systems engagements, inclusive of stakeholder management, project management, responsibility for completing deliverables or organizing the project team to complete deliverables, reporting, budget, and knowledge management for projects
  • Contribute to  the knowledge management of the clinical portfolio in each LMH country
  • Support the development of a clinical strategy that emphasizes priority areas such as RMNH, HIV, and Malaria
  • Review clinical protocols, training, and curriculum design to ensure alignment with evidence and policy
  • Provide technical input into the design and implementation of projects to support national community health systems, develop shared work plans and expectations, and ensure that the LMH team is addressing the client/partner's need
  • Work with partners (LMH Country Teams, NGOs), institutions (USAID, UNICEF), and the Ministry of Health on all aspects of project design and execution
  • Facilitate complex multi-stakeholder conversations at both subnational and national levels, build consensus around decisions, and translate these decisions at multiple levels
  • Support Last Mile Health to develop core competencies in select community health clinical domains 
  • Develop learning agenda, search internally and externally for effective practices, and codify practices and approaches with technical leads
  • Contribute to the sharing, learning, and knowledge management related to community health systems competency areas
  • Represent Last Mile Health with external stakeholders, share our lessons, and help the organization build new partnerships for impact
  • Support external relationship management including regular communications, presentations, and thought partnership

What You'll Bring

  • Master’s in Public Health, International Studies, Public Policy or Health Economics 
  • Several years of experience working in public health, management consulting, and/or public policy ideally with a focus in one of the following areas: RMNCH, Immunization,  nutrition, supply chain, or Quality Improvement
  • Intimate knowledge of community/primary healthcare policy, international health, and development issues at the global level
  • Familiarity with technical aspects of community health systems (e.g. training and supervision, supply chain, human resources for health, quality improvement, governance, etc.)
  • Prior management experience working with a team of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in project and operational management in complex environments
  • Experience working with stakeholders at multiple levels- global partners, technical managers, and national governments 
  • A mission-driven mindset with a commitment to health, social justice, and gender equity 
  • Fluency in English with excellent verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; ability to interface with diverse stakeholders in a range of multi-disciplinary settings

  • You have formal education in the health field (ie nursing, midwifery, medicine)

ForGhana, the range is $25,000 - $38,000 depending upon experience doing an equivalent role.
