Communication and Program Development Advisor

Language requirements: French Level 5 - Full proficiency

Role of the volunteer

The indigenous Bagiely and Bakolo populations are among the poorest and most marginalized peoples in Cameroon. If you are passionate about issues of social inequality and have program development and communication skills, this position is for you!

As a Communication and Program Development Advisor, you will work within the programs team of the Foundation for Environment and Development in Cameroon (FEDEC). More specifically, you will support them in the search for funding, in the identification of new donors, in setting up projects, as well as in external communication.

The volunteer will have to carry out the following activities:
  • Edit the content in terms of quality, and in visual reproduction of the quarterly newsletter of the FEDEC
  • Developed social media communication plan
  • Drafting calls for projects
  • Contribution to the writing of articles for the quarterly newsletter

Essential academic skills:
  • University degree in one of the following disciplines: Management, International Development, Communication

Experience / Essential Professional Skills:
  • At least 5 years of experience in the following areas: Monitoring and evaluation, Business analyst, Communication advisor

Cuso International

Cuso International is a not-for-profit international development organization with a mission to eradicate poverty and inequality. Each year, we send hundreds of qualified volunteers to the field to help our partners maximize their impact and build their capacities. We work with governments, civil society organizations, multilateral organizations and private sector companies to create and deliver programs that promote gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls and access to quality jobs for young people.


Project - SHARE (sharing Canadian know-how for inclusive development and gender equality)

Cuso International will carry out the SHARE project (sharing Canadian know-how for inclusive development and gender equality), with the contribution of Global Affairs Canada (GAC) over a period of seven years. SHARE aims to improve the economic and social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and most vulnerable people, especially women and girls in developing countries, with the mission to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ). In addition to strengthening Canadians' engagement with international development and key global issues, this project will seek to improve the performance of country partners to promote innovative initiatives and more inclusive sustainable environmental development that will advance


Partner - Foundation for Environment and Development in Cameroon

The Foundation for Environment and Development in Cameroon (FEDEC) is a trust fund under Dutch law created in March 2001 and registered with the Chamber of Commerce in The Hague in the Netherlands.
FEDEC is a provision of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) Vol. 4 (1999) for the pipeline project supported and supported by the World Bank, the Government of Cameroon and the Cameroon Oil Transport Company (operator of the pipeline).





Terms and conditions

Cuso International's terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your assignment. Cuso International support helps cover a volunteer's basic living expenses but is not intended to cover home expenses (e.g. mortgage, student loans, school fees, etc.) luxury items including importing goods from elsewhere, international personal travel, etc.


Support Package
  • Modest monthly living allowance (amount varies by country)
  • Accommodation while on assignment
  • Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit fees
  • Cost of required vaccines, anti-malarial drugs and health insurance
  • Pre-departure training program and on-the-job orientation (more details below)
  • On-the-ground support through the Cuso International country office
  • Access to the employee assistance program during the assignment and upon return
  • Bonus: Volunteers who extend for 6 months after completing 12 months of service will be eligible for an additional return ticket or cash back.


Other Requirements
Please note that if you are shortlisted for the internship, you will be asked to:
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference
  • Take an oral assessment during your preliminary telephone interview in the language required for your internship
  • Obtain a police certificate at our request
  • Pass a complete medical examination and obtain the green light from the Cuso International medical adviser before your departure.
  • Due to the COVID-19 situation, be doubly vaccinated in accordance with vaccines approved by the World Health Organization .


Fund raising

We ask each volunteer, regardless of the length of the assignment, to raise $2,000. All volunteers will have the support of Cuso International to achieve this objective. If a volunteer chooses not to fundraise or is unable to meet the fundraising goal, they will be able to make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support our work.
