UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board.

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers. UNV main purpose is the creation of opportunities for the mobilization and placement of UN Volunteers in UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes focused on peace, development and humanitarian needs. This Description of Assignment (DoA) aims to enhance UNV’s presence in the Caribbean to bring UNV’s services and solutions closer to its partners, i.e., UN entities, governments, civil society and private sector. To this end, UNV will place a UNV Focal Point in Jamaica, who will support the UN System in the Barbados MCO with the provision of qualified UN volunteers. The mobilization efforts of the UNV Focal Point will be supported by the UNV Regional Office in Panama with regards to strategy, administration and communication.
