Human Mobility Intern, UNDP Global Policy Network
UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. The Recovery Solutions and Human Mobility team, as a part of the Crisis Bureau, offers integrated solutions by combining existing technical, programme and policy expertise in three established interrelated UNDP workstreams: i) migration and displacement; ii) livelihoods and economic recovery, and iii) mine action, all in light of new developments and situations brought by the Coronavirus pandemic. The internship assignment is within the workstream for migration and displacement, where the intern will assist by, amongst other things, conducting desk research, analyzing pertinent data, helping organizing events and ensure knowledge sharing within the GPN and between regional hubs. The internship is unpaid and full-time, a modest stipend is provided. Interns work five days per week (35 hours), and due to the Coronavirus pandemic, interns can work remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will assist in the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support the Migration and Private Sector Specialist in responding to ongoing needs of the programme, interacting regularly and proactively with UNDP Country Offices on private sector engagement and progress/support needs within the Global Programme in this area. This may include supporting the reporting of global and country-level achievements on private sector engagement, preparing for or document meetings, assisting with planning of Private Sector Engagement (PSE)-related elements for the IOM-UNDP monitoring missions to target countries, maintaining the internal PSE platform, providing input to any technical or other types of documents related to the target countries and following-up on any other recurring issues related to country support.
- Support ongoing capacity building as part of the Global Programme. This may include the facilitation of a global Peer Exchange Group (as per the Global Programme’s training vocabulary) and 1-2 regional Peer Exchange Groups on PSE, encouraging bilateral exchanges across programme countries (led by colleagues), drafting summary reports of capacity building events and performing any other duties related to knowledge management and capacity building, as applicable.
- Provide research and analytical support in capturing progress on private sector engagement in target countries, i.e. preparing written overviews or other inputs, including case examples, to inform the the global knowledge product on private sector engagement that UNDP is preparing within the programme with a timeline until end-2022 / early 2023.
- Assist the Recovery Solutions and Human Mobility team with any other miscellaneous tasks as needed.

Required Skills and Experience
Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
Have recently graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
- Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
- Preferably some relevant experience in development and migration, as well as in gender equality and women’s empowerment;
- Excellent analytical skills are required and experience in research;
- Experience in drafting and editing documents;
- Be literate in social media.
- Fluency in oral and written English and French is required;
- Knowledge of another UN language is a major asset.
- UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
- UNDP offers a monthly stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station;
- All other expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
- UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
- The intern will accrue leave at the rate of 1 ½ days per month. Any accrued leave days not used by the end of the internship will be forfeited. Any unjustified absences during the internship period exceeding a total of nine days, will be deducted from the monthly stipend.
- The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
- Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
- The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
- Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
