Result of Service

The consultant will contribute to UNCTAD's work in the areas of green economy and energy transition. The consultant will also contribute to UNCTAD’s implementation of the National Green Export Review (NGER) of Angola, part of the EU-UNCTAD Joint Programme for Angola: Train for Trade II, which aims to strengthen the capacity of Government officials, private sector representatives and academia in the analysis of issues relevant to the development of green value chains, with special attention to export opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

UNCTAD’s Trade and Environment Programme works to support sustainable approaches to development by promoting a green economy and advancing climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Under the supervision of the Project Officer(s), the consultant will have the following duties and responsibilities:

(1) Prepare a study on the fisheries sector and energy transition with the purpose of reduction/neutralisation of their emissions to net zero carbon and other GHG gasses emissions in developing countries.
(2) Under the direction of programme staff, to coordinate UNCTAD’s to provide substantive inputs in the areas of trade and the promotion of green exports (honey and citrus fruits) in Angola.
(3) Assist programme staff in the implementation of the National Green Export Review (NGER) of Angola, part of the EU-UNCTAD Joint Programme for Angola: Train for Trade II.
(4) Follow up and reporting as required.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental
science, economics, law or international relations is required.
At least 5 years of experience in managing, coordinating, and administering international activities involving developing countries, and in drafting and publishing information articles in international journals. Experience in managing multi-stakeholder groups, preparing social media materials, publishing articles is desirable. Previous experience working with international organizations on projects implemented in Angola is an advantage.

Languages

Fluency in both English and Portuguese is required. Fluency in French is an advantage.
