Organizational Setting

The position is located at the FAO Representation in Georgia under the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) IV programme. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.


Reporting Lines

The International Expert and Trainer on Agrochemical Use shall operate within the ENPARD IV context, under the overall responsibility of FAO Representative in Georgia, the direct supervision of the FAO Programme Coordinator, and the technical supervision of the Senior Agronomist of the Programme, and in close collaboration with the rest of the ENPARD team and other colleagues in the FAO Office in Georgia.


Technical Focus

• Capacity building to Agriculture Input Suppliers’ personnel, Extension staff of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, staff of the National Food Agency and others on several topics on Safe and Proper Management of Pesticides-reducing the possibility of pesticide resistance
• Design training material on Safe and Sustainable Use of Pesticides for Agriculture Technicians
• Train the trainers on Safe and Sustainable Use of Pesticides


Tasks and responsibilities

• Design a Training Program (including the training material) to train technical staff of Agriculture Input Supplier on safe and proper management of pesticides-reducing the possibility of pesticide resistance.
• Implement the first phase of group trainings utilizing the training material. Topics to include in the trainings:
- Resistance in insects and fungi.
- FRAC Code List-What is it, how to use, thorough explanation on its use.
- IRAC Code List What is it, how to use, thorough explanation on its use.
- HRAC Code List What is it, how to use, thorough explanation on its use.
- IUPAC web site- What is it, how to use, thorough explanation on its use.
- Characteristics of agrochemicals and their use
- Decision making process focused on agrochemicals.
- How to design agrochemical rotations - criteria.
- Pesticides and Alternatives app- How to use it.
- Tools to design rotations.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree in agricultural science, biology or relevant fields
• 5 years of relevant experience in training in Proper and Safe Use of Pesticides to Agriculture Technicians
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of French, Arabic, Chinese or Russian.
