Context
In the last three years, UNICEF in the State of Palestine has achieved a very high reach and engagement through its communication activities, including its social media platforms. UNICEF in the State of Palestine would like to build on this and continue engaging with our audiences, who are not only seeking information but are willing to have important conversations on crucial issues concerning children’s wellbeing and rights. This position will support UNICEF in the State of Palestine strategic focus to ensure greater presence, understanding, participation and meaningful engagement with our audiences through the development of high-quality content, research, online community moderation, and knowledge management.
Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief of Communications and Advocacy or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Communications Associate Officer will: •Create and/or update the database including press contacts, international institutions and organizations interested in receiving information from UNICEF State of Palestine. •Perform roles in managing the media relations and counterparts. •Maintaining the permanent relationship of UNICEF State of Palestine with the national and international media. This includes support for the organization of press conferences, the preparation and the sending of bulletins on the activities and events related to technical cooperation, and the search for spaces in the journalistic media for the dissemination of information about children in the State of Palestine. •Develop and implement risk communication and community engagement plan for COVID 19 including details of anticipated public health measures •Support preparation, production and dissemination of educational material including print, electronic media on issues related to COVID-19. •Document lessons learnt to inform future preparedness and response activities. •Assist in the maintenance of UNICEF State of Palestine website, Facebook page, Twitter page, and provide advice on the use of other social media platforms. •Ensure that all products, documents, materials and events carried out in the execution of the agreements and projects comply with the established institutional and intellectual property policies of the organization, and that they are also in accordance with the requirements that counterparts and donors’ request. •Support the Comms Team in the planning of activities related to COVID-19 and international days of the organization such as those agreed by UNICEF and the UN. •Implement and maintain the social communication activities required in relation to UNICEF projects, especially collaborating with media for specific campaigns on child rights issues, including the development of strategies for communicational intervention in populations at risk. The professional will develop his/her functions in close contact with the technical advisors to elaborate their programming based on agreed priorities. •Support public communications activities of the Special Representation through the drafting of talking points, speeches, press releases, Op-Eds, interviews, events, management of photos and other communication products. •Assist with the revision and editing of texts and/or documents to be published by the Representation. •Maintain and update the digital photo record platforms. •Assist with the dissemination of results of programmes, projects, and activities undertaken by the Country Office, as part of the Organizations' contribution to the country’s development. •Assist in the development, planning and execution of UNICEF’s public events. •Create visual products in keeping with organizational standards. •Coordinate with programme sections for UNICEF publications being prepared in State of Palestine, in close collaboration with the Comms Team. •Any other required activity to fulfill the objectives, or as requested by the Special Representative.
