BACKGROUND

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 26 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK

 The Anti-Trafficking program provides trauma-informed and client-centered services to assist victims of trafficking. Services include meeting clients’ basic needs, ensuring clients’ safety and access to temporary and long term shelter as needed. Also, the program refers clients to pro bono legal services, mental health specialists and economic empowerment activities as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess clients’ needs and priorities and work with each client to create a service plan. Managing clients’ cases and case files.
  • Guide clients to various appointments including but not limited to: appointment with lawyers, law enforcement and medical appointments.
  • Engage in community mapping to identify and refer client to resources
  • Engage in outreach activities to identify potential clients and increase visibility of the program in the community

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Intern will gain US field-office experience by interacting with and assisting victims of trafficking
  • Intern will acquire detailed knowledge of IRC programs and public benefits available for refugees and asylees during their resettlement period
  • Intern will learn reporting requirements for resettlement agencies and how to capture data to improve services
  • Intern will gain exposure to case work in the resettlement field
