Background of the project

The Signpost project is a global partnership between the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Internews and NetHope that provides critical information services to people affected by crisis and conflict. Signpost was originally launched by the IRC and Mercy Corps in 2015 at the height of the European refugee crisis. As a community-led information service, Signpost delivers critical information through staff equipped with digital tools, digital channels and social media. Since its launch, Signpost has expanded to help 2 million+ people make life-saving decisions in in 30 countries on 6 continents in 15 languages.

Signpost has 15 active instances, each of which are localized projects targeting a specific population. They have social media channels and websites to enable clients to ask questions, read articles about topics relevant to them and learn where to access services. In the spring of 2022, Signpost received a granted from and a team of Google Fellows to support Signpost’s response to the war in Ukraine, as well as Signpost as a whole.
