Our team and mission

The Strategy and Coordination Group formulates the Directorate's strategy and policy, based on the strategic direction of the Director General, the Director of Human and Robotic Exploration Programmes, ESA Member States as well as the Agency advisory structure and in coordination with the E3P Programme Manager; lead the definition of the strategies for future LEO, Lunar and Mars robotic and human exploration activities; define and implement the plan for the preparation of the Directorae's Programme Proposal for ESA Councils at ministerial level; ensure major cross-directorate actions are adequately coordinated; advise the Directorate on any new idea or proposed activity either from internal or external entities, among other tasks.

Field(s) of activity for the internship

Topic: Terrae Novae exploration strategy and programme outreach and promotion

 

As an intern, you will be working with the strategy team of ESA for its outreach activities promoting ESA’s exploration programme and strategy, and the option for a European human space transportation capability to be evaluated and endorsed at the space summit meeting end 2023:

  • using the running and planned exploration missions (astronaut missions, international space station, European Service Modules for Orion) as a teaser to develop communication content to valorise the exploration strategy narrative
  • supporting outreach and promotion of challenge-based R&D opportunities (as opposed to procurement-based R&D) in fields that are in common between human spaceflight and daily life concerns
  • researching and write success stories documenting how exploration activities generate societal benefits (Knowledge, economics, inspiration, global challenges)
  • developing new visuals and outreach material reflecting the Terrae Novae long-term key-objectives and missions
  • developing opportunities and organising activities raising awareness and interest among all stakeholders (e.g., participating states, non-space industries, R7D, society at large)
  • supporting the communication activities aiming at promoting the option for a European human space transportation capability to be evaluated and endorsed at the space summit meeting end 2023

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

 

Specific competence in one of the following disciplines shall be considered an asset: Humanities and social sciences; Journalism and multimedia

 

Additional skills: Web design and web developer

Background: Education in space activities will be an asset
