Our team and mission

The Industrial Policy and Auditing Department is responsible for fostering the relations between industry and the Agency,  for elaborating and implementing the Agency’s industrial policy, for defining and implementing the geographical return and industrial audit policies, for working closely with Member States on the achievement of their industrial policy goals and for supporting the successful accession of new Member and Cooperating States.

 

The Industrial Policy and Space Economy Division is in charge of:

  • establishing and maintaining a close relation with the Member States regarding industrial policy
  • pursuing the pro-active management of the geographical return objectives of the Agency through its procurement activities, and monitoring/ensuring its proper implementation
  • contributing to the definition of the geographical return objectives for all ESA programmes and activities
  • interacting with non-Member States and European institutions for aspects relevant to industrial policy
  • assessing the economic impact of space activities notably through socio-economic studies in collaboration with national and international organisations, in particular the OECD
  • contributing to the preparation of new programmes of the Agency via assessments of their expected economic benefits with a view to maximising them

Field(s) of activity for the internship

You can choose between the following topics:

 

1) Topic 1: Economic Analysis 1

As an intern you would support the Space Economy team in the analysis of the socio-economic impacts of ESA and its programmes.

 

2) Topic 2: Economic Analysis 2

As an intern you would support the preparation of the ESA’s Space Economy Report.

 

3) Topic 3: Economic Analysis 3

As an intern you would support the cooperation with Eurostat and Member States on the set up of a European space satellite account.

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

 

All topics: Knowledge and background in the areas of economy and statistics are required, and a knowledge of the space sector and programmes would be an asset.
