What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational, and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The associate will work within the Accountability to Affected People (AAP) unit, whose role, based on the ICRC's AAP framework, is to help the ICRC adopt people-centric approaches within its programmes. These efforts enable ICRC to fulfill its commitment to being accountable to the people it serves on the one hand and to improve the relevance, timeliness, and efficiency of its actions in ways that are inclusive and impartial on the other hand. The associate supports this work by taking ownership - under the mentorship of the head of the unit - for the development and maintenance of lean and up-to-date planning and monitoring systems, enabling the effective and timely delivery of all projects within the AAP unit.
