Internship, External Affairs

Rotterdam, November 2022

The Global Center on Adaptation is seeking an intern to assist the External Affairs team in engaging with governments, international organizations, and other stakeholders on the critical issue of climate adaptation. The External Affairs team leads on advocating for adaptation action and forming partnerships in the climate adaptation space, using stakeholder engagement activities such as events, and overseas missions. The role would be suitable for an organized and politically astute individual, with a demonstrated interest in climate policy, international relations, and international development.

About GCA

GCA is an international organization which acts as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support for adaptation, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sectors. Founded in 2018, GCA is headquartered at the award winning Floating Office Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with regional offices in Abidjan, Dhaka and Beijing and a research hub in Groningen.

GCA engages in innovative solutions to drive adaptation at scale, high-level policy development, new research contributions, advocacy, communications, and works with partners to deliver action on the ground. GCA’s work focuses on those who are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change including the poorest communities and countries, to help them withstand health, social and economic impacts of a climate emergency.

GCA operates in three pillars of activity; Agenda Setting & Advocacy, Knowledge Acceleration, and Programs & Action. The Advocacy and Agenda Setting pillar implements how GCA will use its convening power to bring together the most influential opinion formers and decision-makers, while giving voice to the most vulnerable and affected.

GCA is developing a strong outstanding reputation in this field, with a recent example being the Africa Adaptation Summit attended by Heads of State and Government, Ministers, heads of international organizations, together with participants from multilateral development banks, central banks, the private sector, mayors, civil society, youth leaders, and other stakeholders.
