WeWorld-GVC, recently constituted from the merger of two NGOs, is an Italian secular and independent organization working since 1971 in international cooperation and humanitarian aid. Present in 29 countries with 128 projects, WeWorld-GVC operates in the following areas of assistance: human rights (gender equality, prevention and combating violence against children and women, migration), humanitarian aid (prevention, emergency relief and rehabilitation), food security, access to water, health and hygiene, education, global citizenship education, quality teaching and international volunteering. WeWorld-GVC works mostly with girls, boys, women and youth, actors of change in every community for a fairer and more inclusive world. Supports people overcoming emergencies and guarantees a life with dignity, opportunities and a better future through human and economic development programs, in the framework of the 2030 Agenda. Position

Position: Project Manager – Education

Reporting to: Programmes manager

Collaborating with: Local Partners, Civil Engineer and Support Departments

Managing: Field team of 3-4 individuals

Location: Lebanon, Akaar- Kobayat office and Beirut office with frequent visit to Field Areas

Type of contract: a first 3 (three) month collaboration contract subject to verification of the achievement of specific objectives (these objectives will be agreed together with the Country Representative/ Programmes Manager upon arrival on assignment); a second collaboration contract of 9 (nine) months renewable, following the positive evaluation of the first three months of contract

Working context

WeWorld-GVC started operating in Lebanon in 2006 , since then more than 40 project has been implemented among which 2 educational projects. In August 2022, together with its local partners, Ana Aqra and Arcenciel, WeWorld-GVC was awarded an 18-month education project “ANA KAMEN” through funding by AICS (Agenzia Italiana di Cooperazione allo Sviluppo), which operation is foreseen to start in the 2nd half of November. The action will facilitate access to inclusive and quality education services for vulnerable Lebanese children and refugees, promoting the educational and social inclusion of girls and boys with disabilities in 4 Lebanese public schools. The intervention will entail a) provision of solar energy systems, supply of school furniture and rehabilitation of facilities to improve access for pupils with disabilities in 4 schools b) Activities oriented to Improving the access/retention for vulnerable school children in primary as well as the implementation of early childhood education activities (CBECE) for refugee girls and boys c) Activities to improve teacher’s awareness and knowledge to foster social and educational inclusion of persons with disabilities and gender equality.

Purpose of the Role

Within this framework, WeWorld-GVC seeks to recruit a Project Manager leading the implementation of the ANA KAMEN project. Under the direct line management of the Programmes Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for a coordinate and successfully implementation of the project components in close cooperation with the project partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders.

MAIN FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Projects Management (70%)

  • Direct responsibility for the planning, implementation and management of project activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting according to WeWorld-GVC and AICS timeframes and formats
  • Implement approved project plans (including the establishment of milestones) within tolerances set by the Programme Coordinator and Head of Mission whenever needed
  • Provide supervision, guidance, coordination and monitoring of the project staff, ensuring clarity over project plans and priorities and encouraging effective teamwork for the project
  • In collaboration with the Programme Coordinator and the Partner, contribute to the development, upgrade and implementation of an appropriate and effective strategy for the involved sectors of intervention
  • Provide quality advice to the donors on issues that may impact the achievement of project outcomes
  • Supervise quality and transparency of the data reported
  • Provide the Programme Coordinator and Country Representative with regular action plans/project updates and advice on any change to the plan

Communication, coordination and representation (15%)

  • Participate in relevant working groups or external meetings as required, representing WeWorld-GVC and feeding back to the Program Coordinator and Country Representative on relevant issues
  • Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned project staff, and the Programme Coordinator as well as other relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies and other NGOs), to ensure good cooperation and partnerships
  • Maintain concurrent, timely, efficient and supportive communication with the Head of Regional Unit, as well as with the relevant staff in the HQ as required by the Country Representative or the Head of Regional Unit.

Team Management and HR (15%)

  • Ensure the appropriate staffing of the project, planning and implementing specific actions to recruit, manage and motivate staff
  • Ensure that directly line managed staff have clearly defined objectives, understand their responsibilities and receive meaningful feedback on their performance
  • Provide support and advice to project staff, ensuring clarity over project plans and priorities and encouraging effective teamwork
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative and high performing working environment

Other tasks

  • Provide inputs for the update WeWorld-GVC strategies, by conducting needs assessments when relevant
  • Contribute to the development of competitive and responsive project proposals


The duties and responsibilities set forth above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to perform additional duties (i.e. Implementation of other specific tasks assigned by the Line Manager and preparation and transmission of additional information requested by HQ).

Requirements

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Master’s degree in Social or Political Science, Development Studies, International Relations, Project Management or any other relevant studies
  • Excellent Italian and English language knowledge.

Professional experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in Project Management
  • Proven experience with impact-driven implementation of activities and team management, as well as logistics, MEAL and budgeting for programs above 1 M EUR

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal relationships and good communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform under stress condition
  • Capacity to work autonomously and in problems prevention/resolution

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in Educational programs
  • Arabic is an asset
