  1. Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Web Communications Section, Information and Digital Outreach Division, Copyright and Creative Industries Sector. The Web Communications Section is responsible for the overall management of the WIPO website, including user-experience, content strategy, information architecture and design. The Section provides guidance, standards, quality control and training throughout the Organization in support of online communications and user experience goals.

 

  1. Purpose Statement

 

The UX/UI Web Communications Assistant is responsible for performing a range of specialized user experience and user interface tasks that require the application of different and unrelated processes and methods involving specialized treatment of web communications outputs requiring in-depth understanding of the Section. The incumbent will focus on recommending, updating and publishing content on the WIPO.int website and other web products produced by the Web Communications Section and/or external providers, and on technical collaboration in User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) web design.

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Web Communications Section.

 

  1. Work Relations

 

The incumbent works in close collaboration with content creators and subject-matter specialists Organization-wide, as well as with colleagues in the Information and Digital Outreach Division and other related divisions.

 

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

a.   Prepare recommendations and propose specific content and design layouts for web pages, taking into account various considerations including user experience, search engine optimization (SEO), established WIPO information architecture (IA) and web and content design procedures and standards. Maintain and update web content in accordance with WIPO style guidelines and applicable standards.

 

b.   Verify standards and guidelines for corporate visual identity on the web and bring issues to the attention of the supervisor along with proposed remedial action; maintain image libraries in approved folder structure and nomenclature. Stay abreast of the latest UX/UI design trends and technologies, and propose design adaptations using, among other things, wireframes and prototypes. Closely liaise with the Design team to provide technical assistance in the creation, editing and implementation of visual assets for web usage in a variety of formats (image, animation, illustration, video, audio, infographic, etc.).

 

c.   Review requests for new designs of web pages, web applications UI components and widgets to ensure consistency and conformity to established standards and make proposals to improve designs as requested.

 

d.   Provide technical support to the Data team to help improve data collection with tools like Hotjar, Matomo and Google Analytics. Extract data and information to support the preparation of reports and presentations.

 

e.   Provide first-level support to users on the new Content Management System (CMS), provide training to its new users and answer technical queries.

 

f.    Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

3.      Requirements

 

Education (Essential)

Secondary, technical or vocational school degree in UX/UI, web design, computer science, digital communication or another related field.

 

 

Experience (Essential)

At least eight years of experience in the technical aspects of web content and web site maintenance.

 

Experience working with subject specialists and users.

 

Experience (Desirable)

Experience of the UN system and/or a UN specialized agency.

 

Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English and good knowledge of French.

 

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of an additional UN language.

 

Job Related Competencies (Essential)

Ability to implement modern, user-focused designs for web pages (including use of wireframing/prototyping tools such as e.g. Adobe XD, Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma).

 

Ability to develop and/or recommend web content directly in HTML and experience in using web editing, development and administrative tools, such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver, HTML Transit and UltraEdit.

 

Familiarity with UX, content design, SEO, accessibility, information architecture, and web design practices.

 

Ability to edit visual content in a variety of formats (image, animation, illustration, video, audio, infographic, etc.) for web usage; (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.).

 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

 

Tact and sensitivity in working collaborations.

 

Job Related Competencies (Desirable)

Knowledge of WIPO and/or intellectual property concepts.

5.      Information

 

Monthly salary (Net of tax)\:  7,080 CHF

Additional Information

 

General Service posts are subject to local recruitment.  Staff in the General Service category are recruited in the host country or within reasonable commuting distance of the Headquarters.

 

Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
