The Role

At Last Mile Health (LMH), we are all stewards of our reputation and resources. Do you have experience leading project coordination and upskilling activities both at the national and district levels? If so, you may be the perfect fit for our Programmatic Support Consultancy position. 

Reporting to the Director of Programs and other Program team members, the Programmatic Support Consultant will work to ensure that LMH’s strategic and programmatic priorities are executed in partnership with the Ministry of Health and  other partnership programming. 

In this role, the Programmatic Support Consultant will lead coordination of integrated supportive supervision and upskilling activities both at the national and district levels. The  Programmatic Support Consultant will also carry out ad hoc project support and coordination functions  as assigned by the Director of Programs including health financing and advocacy. Finally, the Programmatic Support Consultant will represent LMH by serving as a liaison with various stakeholders and attending coordination meetings.

This position is open to candidates located in Malawi and candidates must have authorization to work in Malawi. 

Project Details:

  • Commitment – 2 months at 40 hours per week (December 5-23, 2022 and then January 3-February 10,2023)
  • Start date - December 5, 2022
  • Location – Lilongwe, Malawi
  • Remuneration - $4,600 USD (For the whole duration- 60 days)

What You'll Do

  • Work with LMH Global Education Team and relevant departments in the MOH to support non-digital health related upskilling for community health workers
  • Liaise with the MoH’s Reproductive Health Department (RHD) to organize a TOT on Community Based Maternal, newborn and Child Health (CBMNCH) by Dec. 10
  • Facilitate procurement of hand held scales, thermometers, timers and bags for use during trainings by December 10, 2022
  • Facilitate printing of training materials by December 10, 2022
  • Collaborate with RHD and District health Management Team (DHMT) members in Nsanje and Chikwawa to conduct roll out trainings of HSAs/CHWs by December 12, 2022
  • Work with ing, evaluation, research and learning (MERL) specialist to identify/develop data collection tools and design study to assess CBMNCH training outcomes by December 20, 2022
  • In partnership with the Director of Programs and the Digital health team, coordinate LMH’s support to MOH in harmonizing Community Health Supervision Systems and tools 
  • Liaise with Quality Management Division (QMD),Digital Health Division (DHD) and Community Health Services Section (CHSS) to follow up on the community health supervision checklist development
  • Liaise with Nsanje and Chickwawa Districts to start implementing the developed checklist
  • Facilitate training of district managers and  HSA supervisors on supervision checklist by January 15, 2023
  • Continuously follow up with the implementation of the supervision checklist
  • Work with MERL specialist to identify/develop data collection tools and design  study to assess supervision outcomes by January 20, 2023
  • Work alongside the Director of Programs, Consultants, and Advocacy, and Health Financing teams to carry out high-quality and aligned work to advance Malawi’s country strategy
  • Alongside the Director of Programs, provide support to the MOH and existing partners to advocate for integration of the National Community Health Framework into their ongoing work streams and budget requests
  • Work with other team members to identify capacity building opportunities for the MOH and its counterparts 
  • Support MOH meetings, technical working groups and other partnership engagements alongside senior program leadership team members  
  • Support team knowledge management, program materials design, systems maintenance, and communications to other LMH departments   
  • Other activities as assigned by the Director of Programs or the Country Director

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Health/Community Nursing
  • Experience in coordinating programs, community  health worker training and supervision, ideally at the national or multi-district level in collaboration with  ministry of health directorates
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in collaborating program planning and implementation with MOH counterparts at national, district and community level.
  • Strong knowledge of the Malawi Health System as well as guiding policies and strategies such as HSSP, NCHS and others
  • Demonstrable expertise and competency in organising trainings for CHWs
  • Knowledge of CBNMCH dynamics and training subject matter.
  • Current or previous exposure to health worker supervision tools

  • You have experience in implementing health working training programs and supported their evaluation
  • You have experience in developing community level supervision checklist and implementing supervision activities
