Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of UNCTAD Secretary-General is looking for an expert in data visualization to support UNCTAD's presence in key global media in its efforts to give wider visibility to its work.
The Visual Data Communications Specialist will undertake comprehensive data analysis to improve impact of content on UNCTAD website. The consultant will prepare a data visualization/data communication strategy to create actionable insights for the overall delivery of UNCTAD's activities. The consultant will deliver training and capacity building in data journalism and information visualization to staff members of UNCTAD Divisions.
The Data Communication Specialist must support implementation of media strategies, tactics and messages to achieve maximum measurable impact on UNCTAD’s profile.
The consultant will challenge conventional thinking using a combination of knowledge of design, the raw power of data and cutting edge technologies to create powerful tools to remove complexity of UNCTAD messages and deliver a wide variety of data visualisation tools including: infographics, data Animation, interactive maps, data storytelling, survey data tools, video & data analysis, data driven dashboards, interactive annual reports, power BI customisation.
Skills : Problem-solving skills including the ability to structure challenges, perform analyses independently & deal with new issues in a dynamic work environment.
Academic Qualifications : An advanced university degree in computer science or related areas. Knowledge using relevant software, programes and tools such as GIS, Javascript/React, D3.js, HTML/CSS, Python, PHP, AWS, UI/UX design, frontend/backend, SQL, Linux/Mac.
Experience : A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in data journalism and demonstrated experience in creating digital strategies, websites, microsites, digital newsletters. Experience with engine optimization, digital analytics (web and social media) and monitoring tools is desirable.
Experience in working in international organizations is an asset.
Fluency in English is required.
