Job Purpose

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations.
IRRI is implementing the project “Precision direct-seeded rice-based diversified systems for transforming labour requirement, yields and profitability of smallholder farmers in Odisha” funded by Government of Odisha. The overall aim of the project is to increase productivity, ensure socio-economic and environmental sustainability, and improve smallholder profitability of rice-based systems in Odisha by catalyzing wide-scale adoption of mechanized and precision broadcast direct-seeded rice (DSR) and other associated tailored best bet agronomic practices through public and private partnership and enabling policy environment. Under the close supervision of the Scientist, the incumbent will provide basic support in the implementation of project activities in the selected district in Odisha.

The position will be based at Kalahandi and Puri districts of Odisha (One for each location) and may only be filled in by permanent citizens of India.

Roles and Responsibilities

• To assist in performing basic activities to support field experiments and demonstration of best management practices in farmers’ fields
• To collect agronomy data from on-farm trials and assist in production practice survey
• To assist in conducting farmers training and meeting
• Execute routine field operations including field preparation and maintenance, crop management, plant and grain sampling
• To coordinate with farmers to gather data and conduct activities accurately.
• To coordinate with scientist and Hub Manager to deliver on defined tasks and duties
• To coordinate with local extension agents for the dissemination of sustainable intensification technologies
• Ensure accurate data collection from field trials and demonstrations
• Ensure accurate production practice survey data collection and processing
• Deliver the dissemination material to the partners and farmers
• Assist in delivering the training and ToT on sustainable intensification practices

Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time

 

Qualifications

Qualification:

Intermediate with 2-3 years of relevant work experience

Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Hands-on experience in managing on-farm demonstration
  • Experience in organizing farmers meeting and training
  • Experience in Data Collection

Preferred

  • Experience in rice production, managing experiments in the field
  • Experience in handling operations of seed drill/machinery
  • Experience in conducting field trials and data collection
  • Has experience working in rural development and CGIAR organizations

Allowances

In addition to the base salary indicated above, IRRI also offers the following allowances:

  • House-Rent Allowance: IRRI provides a house rent allowance of 40% of base pay per month.
  • Transport Allowance: A monthly transport allowance is provided to NRS as below: NRS L2: INR 2,000
  • Dearness Allowance: One Hundred and Thirteen percent (113%) of employee’s base pay.
  • Leave Travel Allowance (LTA): One-month base pay per annum, on availing minimum 2 days of vacation leave
  • Education Allowance: INR 1000/- per child per month (limited 2 children)
