Mission and objectives

The World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. WHO seeks to promote health, ensure everyone can attain the highest level of health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable through partnerships, people and countries.

Context

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. The goal of the WHO is to build a better, healthier future for people all over the world. Working through offices in more than 150 countries and 6 regional offices, WHO Secretariat staff work side by side with governments and other partners to ensure the highest attainable level of health for all people. The regional divisions of WHO were created between 1949 and 1952, and are based on article 44 of WHO's constitution, which allowed the WHO to "establish a single regional organization to meet the special needs of each defined area". Many decisions are made at regional level, including important discussions over WHO's budget, and in deciding the members of the next assembly, which are designated by the regions. The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean that is located in Cairo, Egypt, aims to work with local governments, specialized agencies, partners and other stakeholders in the field of public health to develop health policies and strengthen national health systems.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Team lead or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Epidemiologist will: COVID-19 and Monkeypox data management: • Entering and verifying COVID-19 and Monkeypox data in the different platforms e.g. DHIS2, ActivityInfo • Collecting, collating and verifying data relevant to COVID-19 from the 3 hubs in Syria COVID-19 and Monkeypox data analysis: • Support the weekly COVID-19 and Monkeypox data analysis, production of IMST presentations and other communication products • Support the WCO in COVID-19 epidemiological analysis. • Develop and maintain analysis tools to facilitate the analysis process • Update and develop the required analyses plan for COVID-19 or other outbreaks. • Represent team in the IMST and other meetings. Capacity building and training for data management and analysis: • Coordinate and assist the development of training materials • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the training • Facilitate sessions in the training Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor
