Mission and objectives

UNICEF works worldwide to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in emergencies. We focus on the unique needs of girls and women – recognizing their systemic exposure to gender-based violence – while helping to ensure that support is available for all survivors of sexual violence, including boys. In coordination with governments, civil society and United Nations partners, we provide survivors with clinical health services, dignity kits, psychosocial support and the safe spaces they need to access care and protection. Safe spaces allow women and girls to participate in activities for empowerment and gain access to critical information on their risks, rights and needs. This includes information on how to access aid and where to report sexual exploitation and abuse. In many emergencies, safe spaces are the only way women and girls can access relevant and life-saving information.

Context

Safe spaces for women and girls have been established as a key approach of reaching and providing them with key information, links to services, skills-building, peer connection, and support. Yet, as access to physical safe spaces is often limited for adolescent girls and women especially during COVID-19, UNICEF has developed a platform to act as a virtual safe space (‘VSS’) for them to access information and support. A first VSS pilot in Iraq and Lebanon in 2018 aimed to provide adolescent girls with information on sexual and reproductive health (SRH). It became apparent that adolescent girls and women also lacked information on GBV information and required an interactive platform where they have a voice. Using feedback from the pilot, UNICEF has worked on a new platform (VSS 2.0) featuring highly interactive content (e.g., TikTok-like videos, podcasts, and quizzes) which is being rolled out in Ecuador and Iraq. This updated version of the VSS used human-centered design (HCD) methodology to delve into the needs, desires of women and girls to design an accessible and secure platform. In 2022, new features (moderated user forum, gamification) and additional country deployments are being planned, including in Venezuela, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. As we build and upload this context, we need support from a volunteer on uploading content to the website and supporting translations.

Task description

A volunteer should be able to: - Upload SCORM content to the website’s CMS and fill in the required information according to the spreadsheet - Add subtitles to a video or podcast through the YouTube subtitle tool (Spanish, English)
