BACKGROUND:

 The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

OVERVIEW:
IRC believes that designing our strategies and programs based on clients’ particular needs and preferences is one of the most critical drivers of impact. We also believe that we have a role to play in working with clients so that they can engage as an equal, influential partner both with IRC and in the broader community through advocacy.  The CCE Intern will work closely with the Community Engagement and Advocacy Team to assist initiatives to advance refugees; advocate for laws, policies, and programs that lead to justice and opportunity for all refugee and immigrant communities; and build the power of refugees and immigrants and the organizations that serve them to ensure their sustainability, to improve people’s lives, and to strengthen our state. 

Please note that this position is unpaid.

This is an in-person position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research local/state-wide agencies that work directly with and/or on initiatives that impact refugees, asylees, people of other immigration status
  • Coordinate appropriate translations for available resources
  • Record and transcribe meeting notes
  • Help coordinate with various IRC programs to share updates about CCEA engagement and opportunities for clients
  • Track and report program deliverables, participation, and any other relevant feedback
  • Work with the IRC data team to manage the quality of data used for community mapping
  • Gather and input appropriate data into Google Earth Pro or other platforms and manage data in Box
  • Coordinate in-person client meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
